Perthreefer
I've been keeping reef tanks for over ten years now and progressed from a 180 litre tank up to a 600 litre Zeovit reef, which was my last system... IMAG0370 by kenpau01, on Flickr I have recently moved into an apartment block which doesn't really leave much room for a 3/4 tonne reef tank, so this is my first attempt at a nano system. I decided to go with a 30 gallon shallow tank at 24" x 24" x 12". There is a company here in Perth that make beautiful custom systems so I used the money from my large tank sale to pay for a high end system from them. Very pleased with these lights so far, although I haven't really played with them properly and I haven't seen any growth with them obviously. three by kenpau01, on Flickr Under the hood is an acrylic moulded sump and ATO chamber, pipework is from Georg Fischer who provide pipework solutions for the mining and automotive sector to withstand extreme pressures. four by kenpau01, on Flickr The return pump is a Vectra M1, massively overrated for this system, it'll probably be operating at 20% for most of the time, although it allows me extra flow to run through a chiller later on. The only thing that bugs me is that it is not compatible with the Neptune Apex, I was hoping to run a couple of programs with this because it is acting as a flow pump but for some reason Ecotech Marine decided not to make it compatible. The ATO is a Smart ATO micro which is awesome, so tiny and seems to work very well. five by kenpau01, on Flickr The controller is mounted with the Vortech mounting system, I will be adding the MP10 controller next to is soon. Seven by kenpau01, on Flickr A Deltec SC1351 skimmer provides filtration, again massively overrated for the tank but I'm hoping to run a very clean system suited to SPS. Six by kenpau01, on Flickr There are two reactor chambers plumbed into the return lines, one for carbon and one for phosban. eight by kenpau01, on Flickr The 'brain' at the moment is a pile of spaghetti, that's my next job, to tidy up the cables... nine by kenpau01, on Flickr That's about it for now, I have a couple more little jobs to do to the tank, the cycle started last week so will be looking to add livestock in around 6 weeks time hopefully. sadie
wow, cool tank! I have an all in one (16 gal), so this looks crazy to me. I don't even know what half that stuff is! It's like out of a Sci-Fi movie. But it looks awesome!! 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks Specore, it definitely didn't reach it's potential. I just ran out of time with it unfortunately! Hoping to create a much smaller version with this new system though! 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks guys, a few of the bits are off my old system but I thought if I'm going smaller I want to go high tech!! No guarantee of a successful tank obviously, but what bloke doesn't love playing with toys??!! 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Perthreefer
Been a little while since I posted, have been going through the nitrogen cycle which has finally finished, it actually only took 27 days which I'm pretty happy with considering I started with a clean system. First livestock are out of quarantine too and seem to be doing fine, I'm hoping to add some coral this week but in the meantime here's a few updated shots... 43065117834_ec447ef36d_k by kenpau01, on Flickr 28845029237_bcf805ee54_k by kenpau01, on Flickr 2 Quote Link to comment

specore
Did you use the auto feeder on your previous tank? I've thought about these at times but the reviews are mixed at best. Quote Link to comment

Or just evenly mixed? Love the rockscape too. You planning on running a refugium on this build? Quote Link to comment

I did run the AFS on my previous build and it worked really well, the issue I'm thinking now is there is a minimum amount you can feed and that amount might be too much to dump into a nano. I won't be using it until I have a decent clean up crew and am fully stocked. 1 Quote Link to comment

You planning on running a refugium on this build? Bit of a mixture I think, I'm a sucker for acropora and montipora but having some movement in there is good too. I'll start with a few LPS pieces and go from there, won't be able to add any SPS for at least 6 months anyway. I won't be running a refugium, the skimmer is overrated for this system, and I'll run carbon/phosban too. I just have room for a refugium though if I'm honest!! 1 minute ago, KW NANOREEF said: This is a spectacular build for a Nano! Cannot wait for corals in this thing! Thank you!! KMitch
Beautiful Paul! I agree, not happy that the EcoTech module from Neptune doesn’t cover the Vectra pumps...seems to hold back the full potential of the system. Maybe one day they will update firmware and allow it... love the the cleanliness of the build. Will be following along! Quote Link to comment

The first post was taken with a Sony A7II, think I had an 85mm f1.8 lens on at the time. The post tonight was with my Samsung S8+ believe it or not!! We won't need DSLRs in a few years time!! 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah I just don't understand this one, Radions and Vortechs are compatable so why stop with the Vectra?? It's frustrating for me because I have an MP10 mounted at the rear of the tank and would have liked to have the Vectra copy the flow patterns of the MP10. Hopefully someone sees sense and updates the firmware! Quote Link to comment
Perthreefer
Little update on my system, been adding a few corals over the last few weeks, I'm looking for a mixed reef and am allowing space for them to grow out so might look a bit barren at the moment! Almost there now, another zoa colony and a birdsnest and I'll stop at the coral addition. Currently have a Royal Gramma and a Flame Angel (risky I know) in quarantine, a couple of snails and a red line shrimp and I'll be pretty much done stocking. Would appreciate any advice on coral placement, or anything in general about my setup.
