oceanboy
I've had a 15 gallon tank running for about a year now and am going to upgrade to a new 40 gallon tank. I'm reusing the same live sand, live rock, filter, and the 15 gallons of water in the old aquarium. I've always wanted an anemone to host my clownfish pair but didn't have enough room in the 15g, but now I'm setting up a 40g tomorrow. My question is, can I add a BTA once I set up my tank? I read that it's best to add an anemone in the beginning so that it "finds its spot" and doesn't move around the tank damaging other corals when the tank is fully stocked. However, I also read that anemones need tanks that have been established for a while. What should I do? I was thinking of adding it a few days after my tank is up and running Quote Link to comment
banasophia
Following along, as I have wondered about this same dilemma. Quote Link to comment

I was thinking of adding it a few days after my tank is up and running Hi there, i recently did an upgrade from fluval 12g to IM 30g long. I used same sand, rock but did not transfer old water to new tank. I had my smaller tank for 1yr 3mo. I added a RBTA 1mo 21 days ago, prior to setting up my new tank. Its gotten larger and all livestock is doing great. I think keeping params in check and the RBTA will do just fine. I say go for it! Good luck. Quote Link to comment
Euphylin me
i wouldnt dive in right away and grab one as transferring sand and rock can create some die off and make the parameters unstable for a bit...also, i would isolate the nem in a strainer for a day to let it acclimate to your water without getting beat up by the clowns...so after the transfer, test your water. then wait 48 hours and test again. also, nems need a fair amount of light...what lighting do you plan on using? 1 Quote Link to comment
squamptonbc
I added mine to the current tank around the 4 month mark, its doing very well, and growing like a week, I have been lucky in that the first place I put it, it liked and has not moved once. The clowns have no interest in it though, they prefer the bottom corner of the aquarium, so just keep in mine your clowns may not take to it straight away. I have a friend who has 4 anemones in his tank, and his clowns 5 years later have never taken to any of them. Quote Link to comment

However I think I could lure them over to the anemone with my turkey basted that I use to feed them. They always go crazy and follow that thing around when I put it in the tank. Hopefully I can bring them over to it and make them interested in it if that happens Quote Link to comment
