Dividing Sump on Reefer 170 - Refugium Question

I'm dividing the main compartment in the sump on my Red Sea Reefer 170.  Planning on using the divided space for a small refugium to grow macro algae and pods.  Should the refugium be infront of my skimmer section or after?  Does it make a difference?
