Cyano, Diatoms, or Dinos

Hello fellow reefers,

I have a 40 breeder set up since 2/19/18. Used live rock and sand from my 20 gallon which was established for about two years before I got it in November 2017. Also added some new cycled rock and live sand.

I've got some stringy brown stuff growing everywhere and I'm looking for an ID.

Salinity: 1.026

Ammo: 0

Nitrate: +/- 2

Alk: 7.8 dkh

Calc: 410

Phos: 0.1, I have a Salifert kit and it always looks like 0.1 to me. I'm going to invest in a Hanna checker soon.

Mag: 1400

 

My first thought was Cyano but I tried Chemiclean and today is day 2 without change in appearance.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Two large turbo snails, 2 Nassarius snails, 2 Cerith snails, and 3 Astrea snails. I also have a sand sifter star, a red legged hermit, and a murderous blue hermit in my sump.

I have a large ball of chaeto in my fuge and I normally run carbon just before my return pump.

On that reefcleaners link from @Subsea, the description of dinoflagellates says the following:

 

‘If you are in doubt as to what you have send us a picture, there are many similar looking species that are easily removed.”

 

I would start there, by sending your pics to Reef Cleaners. John Maloney who runs it is great, and may be able to help you determine the identification and make some good suggestions. He replies quickly, usually same day or next day.
