Biocubelife
So I did a water change yesterday and siphoned our the sand a little. I did my best to make sure sand wasn’t covering any of the coral but missed a spot on the open brain. My cleaner shrimp was on an area of the coral and I saw some sand on the coral so I moved the sand and found a black spot. Did I just ruin my open brain? tried my best to get a pic but the blue lights can be tricky. Quote Link to comment
OPtasia
Probably a crab of some sort. My last maze brain coral developed a hole like that. Turned out to be a weird crab thing. I forget what they're called. Quote Link to comment

In general, when I see stuff like this in open brain corals, it could be a gall crab: https://www.advancedaquarist.com/blog/the-crab-that-lives-in-your-brain-has-been-identified Quote Link to comment

Some people live with it and some people go all out trying to get rid of it... and getting rid of it is 50/50 (you might kill the crab or you might end up killing both the crab & the coral).
