Rathje70's 40G IM Nuvo - UPDATED PICTURES

Hello all - well, I have decided to get back into it after a few years of being tankless.....My Biocube and Nuvo 16 threads are below. I got the itch and went ahead and bought a 40G Nuvo that I setup three weeks back. The girlfriend isn't too happy that the Biocube and the Nuvo are still sitting in the store room. :D

So here is the new setup:

IM Nuvo 40G

AI Nano - looking for a controller!

30# live rock

40# live sand

JBJ ATO with 5 Gallon IM Reservoir

I bought a CUC, ricordea, and GSP frag a couple of days ago and they are doing well. All of my levels are stable and will likely be looking to add some fish later this month.

A few pictures below - thanks for following!

Thanks - I built that table in college and now have a permanent place for it down in my man cave!

I picked up a few corals and a Black Ice Clownfish this weekend - a couple of pictures below!

Love the dimensions of this tank! Must feel good to get back into it. And about the girlfriend not being happy about the tanks being in storage- you sound like me.

Ill be getting back into it hopfully this year with a larger build when I move.

I still have three empty tanks in my basement XD love the excitement of new builds.

@Elizabeth94 - I really enjoy the dimensions of the tank as well. I had a Biocube back in the day and loved the cube look and this Nuvo 40 takes that to another level! How big are you looking to do for your next build?

I originally was looking at nano tanks but set my eyes on an SCA PNP 80gal System. Just realized my lfs closed and I am about an hr out from the next best one, which is making me consider a smaller system.  Also looking into getting a new dog in the next year, so need to save money for that expense. LOL

Well tank is 1.5 months old and have started to stock it up with some new frags and a couple of fish - Ruby Red Scooter Blenny and Eibli Angel. The LFS has a bunch of these scooter blennies and only at $30 a piece! Fun to see it start to come together!!

Thanks all!

Quick update with some pictures. My red scooter blenny decided to somehow jump out even with the screen top on - thought that was impossible and was disappointing as that fish had some great character! I also had to get ride of my Eibli Angel because it kept nipping at my SPS...... Outside of that - it’s coming along and have added a few more SPS.

Enjoy!

Another quick update...have been battling keeping fish alive and believe it is due to Ich being present. I have one clownfish who has fought that off and doing great....but am not really sure the best path forward to rid the parasites from the tank. I don't have and would prefer not to have a QT tank as I don't have the room for one. All of the corals are doing great! A couple updated shots below!

Does this mean the fish died?

Well it is interesting- I still have a clownfish in my tank that seems to be strong enough to beat it. That said....if I keep him in there - there is still a place for the parasite to prosper. Trying to decide what I should do with the clown as I don’t have room to setup a quarantine. Thoughts?

There is a thread on how to fight salt water ick by seabass.  I have not had to battle ick for a very long time. But some one on here did and won. If I remember correctly it had to do with changing the salinity. Is the blenny also still alive? It is a good idea not to add any more new fish. I was surprised you added the blenny after the clown had ick.

Well some updated pictures.....got a healthy sized tricolor Arco yesterday from the LFS. My clown is still going strong despite the potential ich.....not sure what to do at this point. Take the clown out and go fallow for eight weeks? Or is there a way to keep the clown in there and get over it?2B5C7856-2A61-4909-99C7-1A0816C88A0C.thumb.jpeg.e6ccbcd5b935c5e0050a0e3f467131f8.jpeg

I’d feed garlic soaked frozen food to help with his immune system. I’ve also used the API stress coat also to help with slime coat around the fish.

Now in theory if the ich can’t attach itself to the fish (slime coat) it can’t feed. So if you can use the garlic soaked frozen food and the stress coat and go the fallow period without ich on your fish you could get rid of the ich without a QT tank.

That’s worked for me but I caught the ich like right at one or 2 white specs and did this immediately. Hopefully this can probably help your tank.

Certainly could give that a shot.....I am just battling with that I will be gone to Europe for two weeks in early September and would like to use that as the fallow period. So do I get rid of the fish now.....so after I return, I can give it another shot...?
