Jamisondaniel33
how do you guys do your copepod colonies? Quote Link to comment
Nocturnal
I have never built one intentionally, but I had an empty tank with a bunch of chaeto and accidentally grew a massive colony of pods. It was kind of cool dropping food in and watching them swarm all over. Whenever I upgrade to a larger tank I want to keep a mandarin so I'm sure I will have to do something similar. SaltyBuddha
To build up a sizable colony, you will need a refugium or a spot in your tank/liverock that your fish cannot access. Fish will decimate a colony of pods so they need a separate space to populate. Most people do this with a refugium but I have seen some mesh nets that you can supposedly fill with liverock that will give them a space to breed. You can wait and let it build up on its own over time, or you can buy copepods online (reefcleaners, gulf coast ecosystems, etc.) to jump start your pods and increase diversity. Quote Link to comment
