Cleaning out everything really good since I’ll be gone for a week. The green RFA somehow died a few days ago and is fouling up my water so I’ll also be taking care of that. Quote Link to comment
CarolinaShoreReef Posted June 29, 2018 Author Share Posted June 29, 2018 Did a 5g (33%) WC. Got the chaeto in. It’s light will be opposite of the tank. Just using a cheap grow light from eBay. I’ll report back how the chaeto is holding up. I like the minimalist approach; having less electronics to have issues with. So now as far as filtration goes there’s two caddy baskets. One has chemi pure elite, filter floss, and matrix. The other has carbon, filter floss and a tiny sponge pad (just in there in case I want to seed a pico reef later on). Then the other chamber has matrix in a mesh bag and an other has the chaeto in it. Quote Link to comment

I’ve had experience with grow leds and found they’re pretty strong and had bleaching plants when too close, don’t know how it would affect algae though. Hopefully since it’s growing in water the refraction will make somewhat of a difference. Wish that I could tell you the intensity. I know it was kind of high and on the blue side of the spectrum. I couldn’t access the prime WiFi a few weeeks ago so I had to reset it and lost their settings. Here’s what it is now. I’m really liking it since it’s a tad more white. 1 Quote Link to comment

CarolinaShoreReef Posted July 8, 2018 Author Share Posted July 8, 2018 It’s nice coming back to a healthy reef after a week long vacation. All I did was feed heavy before leaving and had someone come mid week to drop a cube of mysis. I even spotted the leopard wrasse on the security cam while gone which was nice as I had been worried when leaving since I didn’t see it the week before.
