Hey everyone!
Just to give you a little backstory before I get into the tank. My name is John, I am 15 years old, and I live in Georgia. I got into this hobby a year ago by watching tanks on YouTube and seeing them on the forums. I recently moved to Georgia from NewYork and my parents agreed to let me have my first saltwater tank YAY! I have read lots and lots of information online and have educated myself with as much stuff as I could. I purchased used equipment and some new things from my lfs.

Tank Specifications:

  • Kessil A80 tuna blue led light with gooseneck mount and spectral controller
  • Aquaclear 50 HOB Filter
  • Koralia Hydor nano pump
  • Finnex Marine 2 Refugium Light
  • Chaeto algae from my lfs
  • Acurel poly fiber media pad pack

  • AquaStik Stone Grey rock epoxy
  • Innovative Marine glass cleaner
  • Premixed salt water and RO water from my lfs

Update : 2/4/18
It has been a long time since a tank update. First off the tank has been running stable at around 79.5-80*F for the past two weeks. Everything is looking great. The filter has been converted into a Refugium and is working great. I purchased chaeto from my lfs to add into the tank and it’s growing like crazy! I added my first inhabitant also, a blue legged hermit crab:)He is doing awesome and I have fed him a few fish pellets so far to supplement his diet because of the lack of algae and other things in the tank. I have a moderate light schedule from 1-4 just to give a little time for the tank to get acclimated to the light. And so I can look at it for a little bit afterschool. Here is a pic:)

Update: 2/12/18
This update has been long over due but here it finally is. My blue leg hermit molted while I was asleep and I found his exoskeleton sitting on a rock and thought it was his dead body. Luckily it was just his molt and I quickly removed it so it wouldn’t pollute the tank. I went to a local reefers place to check out his tank and I ended up leaving with a few frags he gave me for free, which was super awesome. It was one plug of GSP and one plug of some type of Zoas. I acclimated them and then placed them on the sand bed. After that I ordered a Frag rack which arrived a few days later. I placed these two frags in there which looked pretty sleek. The Zoas pretty much all opened but the gsp only had a few polyps open. Everything has been pretty stable so far:)

Update: 2/20/18

I helped a good friend of mine breakdown an old old tank and transport it across town along with water, corals, rock, fish and several inverts. The tank had been running for 8 years and looked very cool. After we got back to the house I helped him frag some corals acclimate the fish for his tank and get everything stored in his garage. Here is a shot of the tank from that trip.

Welcome to the Nano-Reef Community @YogiReef! Great new beginnings on your aquarium, I really dig the aquascape you created. How are all the new frags acclimating?
