My Zoas have been acting weird lately, I'm assuming that's because my iodine level is too low. I'm going to slowly bring up my salinity, after calibrating my refractometer again, with evap and water changes.

Today is my 1 year anniversary of reefing!

The tank has been doing well since starting to dose iodine as the ATI test recommended. My Zoas are coming back, thankfully! I lost my goniopora I'm assuming due to the iodine and sucking at water changes for a while.

I picked up some awesome stuff during black Friday/cyber Monday.

Anyway, here are some pics to enjoy. Thanks for reading and to all who have helped me in the last year. ❤️IMG_20181202_143639.thumb.jpg.2d504ec6e577f591522159ca72bdb7ec.jpg

I'm a big fan of Kona Reef in north Phoenix, it's a really nice shop: https://www.konareefaz.com. I haven't made it out to some of the stores on the further edges of the valley yet. What are your favorites?

My favorite was Saltwater Junkies in Peoria but they closed early this year. I go to Kona most often now, their remodel/merge with Studio Blue is also pretty awesome. I live in Prescott Valley so it's a full day trip to check things out. A new store just opened in Prescott, Neptune's Paradise, it's pretty good and the owner will order pretty much anything. He has a small section of freshwater too.

The tin contaminate could very well be something in your rock. Years ago, when we could get live rock from all over the South Pacific, a friend had a tank where everything he put in it died. Finally he called me one day and said lets rip this thing apart, I'm about to throw in the towel. After I pulled 3 of the rocks I saw a green stain on a rock. Cracked the rock open and there was a bullet in it, presumably from WW2. I would check the pumps as well as looking for any odd stains on the rock. The other thing about new sand, your values will be extremely high, especially your alkalinity due to all of the dust it contains. Other than that, congrats on a year in the hobby and the tank looks great.

Thanks @StinkyBunny! I will look over the rock thoroughly.

I've pulled all the hardware and sifted through the sand to determine the cause of the high tin level. My husband read that glass can also be leaching tin into the tank. My sump is DIY with glass baffles cut by a friend who does windows. Any thoughts

I plan to do another ATI test by the first of the year.

I've heard that glass can leach minerals, but I will have to talk to a chemist friend before I say that's the issue. In my mind, it would take one hell of an acidic environment to cause glass to leach something which our tanks are not.
