This guy is extra salty
So I found out today my luck has changed and now I’m going big and taking it home. im purchasing a red reefer 750xxl deluxe lights: 4 hydra 26’s I might add two more.. skimmer: bubble magus curve 9 dc return: jebao dc12000 (max3170gph) Wave maker: 2 maxspect gyre250’s rock: maybe 150lbs (need room for SPS to grow) (In the sump) 12lbs of Fiji miracle mud along with 4 brightwell legos to light the sump I’ll probably use one of the AI prime HD’s that is collecting dust. (Am I missing anything?) for this build I’m going to “seed” the tank with 20 gallons of my “dirty” water from my nano display(32biocube) and the rocks from there will be moved to the 750xxl then the biocube will become a frag tank since the lights that are installed in the hood are a DIY XR30 equivalent. As for the display fuge I’m deciding on tying that into the 750 or keeping it with the biocube as a whole system.. I’m undecided (what would y’all do?) all pf this will be coming together within the next week or so 1 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
I got all the equipment stacked and ready to rock and roll... also tomorrow I get to call a moving company to move the tank and stand from my LFS to my fish room, I was able to check out the assembled stand and the tank. My buddy at the LFS didn’t realize how thick the 750xxl glass was and highly recommended getting a moving company Below is the hydras the cabinet doors and hardware Hopefully I will have the tank set up by Monday 2 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
Alrighty my tank finally arrived today after finding out my LFS informed me I needed movers. I give a huge shout out to Zach @carefulmovers in the STL area they did a wonderful job and extremely cautious let alone courteous. Barely fit thru the sliding glass door Let put the display on the stand! Making final adjustments for the display boom time for me to start the leveling nightmare since there is a drain in the middle of the room and the slope is all towards the center of the room. I couldn’t believe how many adjustable feet there were. Time to put in that beautiful sump and filter socks I think I’ll change out the sock later on This is a beast of a skimmer, I purchased it when marine depot had a sale going on spent like 250$ for it. I originally wanted a DC skimmer mainly cause of the controllability, but for 10$ I couldn’t resist. The beast is rated for 550 gallons, I think I could tap in all my systems through this skimmer and it will be fine. Starting to fill her up and the light install I love the clean look of the hydra 26 and the swing arm. It dawned on my that the lights extension and be moved swung upwards 45deg for when you maintenance the display Finally finished the light setup and put in 80lbs of Fiji pink sand but I think I’m going to add another 40lbs give or take. Cause I do like my deep sand bed so my pistol shrimp can make its network of tunnels lastly my rock work. I know y’all are going to say I need more rock for beneficial bacteria but look at my sump in the picture I have 4 brightwell legos that has 71k sqft of usable space for the bacteria (actually 284,000sqft) plus with the “rubble” that I’m going to put into it I believe I have more than enough. The real reason I’m going this route is so all of my SPS will have tons of room to grow. 4 1 Quote Link to comment

This guy is extra salty
So I have it filled and i have the tank cycling for about a week now. During the fill process I poured in 15gallons of “dirty” tank water from water changes which will aid in the cycling process as the cycling process is commencing I’m starting to arrange up my wiring for all my equipment since im about a week in for the Bacteria to establish I’m “breaking in” the beast of a skimmer the b10 bubbamagus. While I was tuning in the skimmer I decided to hang my refugium light and put in 12lbs of refugium Fiji mud my new dual return came in from vivid aquatics. I couldn’t put in my rockscape cause it was creating a dust bowl effect and looked terrible. And I couldn’t wait for everything to “clear” up so I decided to connect the hydra26’s and see how it will look 4 Quote Link to comment

Guess ignorance on my part lol are you going to reefapalooza in April? quick update checked all my parameters and looks like I’m good to go, for the great coral move of 2018. I know using 10% of the water volume of old “dirty” water from my tanks and from my LFS sped up the cycle. I even put a piece of jumbo shrimp in there so I could make sure there’s something going on. After day three the Shrimp was “peeling” from its fuzzy cocoon... btw it smelled wonderful and even disintegrated when I tried to take it out 1 Quote Link to comment

I got my 350 used a while back, freaking love it. Very jealous of your 750!! Why water from the LFS? Hopefully with a tank like this you have a RODI in the budget ? Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
Oh crap I thought I added those pictures, well at the beginning of the setup I have two tubes filling it up. i found a 6 stage rodi system on amazon for 150$ that uses the BRS cartridges it’s only a 75gpd but I figured since I’m spending 10$ a week for water with my previous setup I needed something at home awesome are you planning going both days or one? Well it was water out of their own 600 peninsula which is packed with acros, I even had them toss in a filled skimmer cup. Lol 1 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
Ok well yesterday was quite a success I managed to move my frat system and my predator tank i lost my six line wrasse in the process, which I’m sure the cause was stress. But my fox face, yellow tang, and falcor made the transition with no hiccups. I didn’t take any pictures of moving the tanks cause I was in such a rush to get them out of the “bad situation” and back into my loving care. I think I’m going to try out with just the two primes and see how they work for the time being, but if I don’t notice as much growth or coloration I’m going to add the other two i also moved my predator tank which it. Still had my mini carpet anemone and the tiger pistol shrimp i was extremely “shocked” that the tiger was still alive finally i started to Ted to move my “mother” colonies over to the 750, they look so tiny! (about 3in in diameter) I took a close up Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
Oh I forgot to mention, that all my lights are running of the aqua illumination app. Since my Refugium on the 750 has a prime hung in it I think that will be “more” real estate to grow more coral..I haven’t decided yet Quote Link to comment
HarryPotter
With such low rockwork, it will be hard to have a good balance of height for corals. Now, you are giving ricordias and acros just about the same par. If you look at tanks with even the largest acropora colonies, none of the colonies will start from the bottom. Such a beautiful tank, drooling! Are you dipping corals as you move them? Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
They’re coming straight out of my frag system. But prior to even entering the frag system they get dipped and go into a 12 week quarantine system i believe I might have enough par I’m kind of debating on adding my two extra AI primes that are collecting dust. I seem to be getting some decent growth and coloration from what I have in there already.. I’ll have to take some pictures but I did end up taking my two blacker ice clowns out of QT. “Fillet” and “O’fish” Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
So about a week laterI was able to move over some of my coral and some new pieces that I just acquired, two new inhabitants that got released from Quarantine. for some reason the convict tang and the foxface do no venture far from each other. I got two of the Tunze frag shelves which seem to do fine with 3/4in glass here is some candy for y’all so i started to run out of room in my frag tank and since corals are coming and goIng in that tank. I decided to use the AI prime I have in the refugium area of the 750 so I purchase IM “snapp grid” I saw that it was a new product On Marine Depot’s website so I decided to give it a try. Which is now being used to hold some of my high dollar for frags from WWC i Still have a bunch more my high dollar stuff to move over… Frag then move over lol i have a lot of work ahead of me happy st patty’s day 3 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
A short an quick update. Three more fish has been released out of quarantine! first is “ninja” the lawnmower blenny second is “butters” the yellow eye kole tang and the third is “Jeep” the 4x4 goby or twinspot goby i have also added a lot more coral to the system since this is the “mother tank”. everything is coloring up and growing rapidly also do this past weekend I went to the local frag swap hosted by “S.L.A.S.H.”(Saint Louis Area Saltwater Hobbiest) and I decided to pick up a hammer coral colony and an green gonipora(flowerpot coral) the price was right so I didn’t spend too much there (literally 20$) stay salty reefers! 1 Quote Link to comment

It was a struggle having it in the quarantine tank. I had to keep the lights on a bit longer than usual to get algae “growth” It needed the quarantine tank is a 20gallon tall, with a 10gallon sump. 40lbs of aragonite sand 10lbs of rock. It was my display refugium but I transformed it to the QT since I had to move Quote Link to comment

I think I kept my sandbed too clean which didn't help. What do you plan to do with the old qt tank? Quote Link to comment
mbarton2010
Nice setup but i feel the lack of LR in the display really hinders the aquascaping potential. Quote Link to comment

Thanks! Well the point of having live rock is for beneficial bacteria, I have 5 brightwell bricks in my sump. With the equivalent of 355,000sqft of space for beneficial bacteria.. the main reason I have a very minimal rockscape, is so my SPS colonies can grow out.. What do you plan to do with the old qt tank? I just do 2 50% WC within a week, after inhabitants go into either the 750 or frag system.. i just keep the system running since it’s already standalone from the 750, and my frag systems. With sifting gobies sometimes it’s better to “skip” stirring or vacuuming the sand bed a week or two prior to putting one into your display since they do the cleaning for you.. Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
well ninja seems to be having a banquet around the newer frags in the system Got some newer pieces in this one doesn’t have a name yet.. this one is “CC Shoshana acro” as for the “upgrades” I went ahead and bought another brick so I can use it when I get another 90gallon system going, it made my skimmer go nuts for one day. for a second I thought it was these four that cause the skimmer to go nuts, I’m sure they had a party when they got out of Quarantine. Didn’t even send me an invite.. As part of the “upgrades” I decided to do a diy CO2 scrubber.. over all cost with media was 60$ The last upgrade I finally got to install my “RSCP” Doser up. excuse the rats nest of wires I haven’t figured out what color scheme i want to do with the “faux” compartment of hiding all the equipment.. This guy is extra salty
The may/June update is here with a few notable changes... water changes! (FYI picture heavy) I love that my frag setup has the auto aqua smart ATO/AWC. It makes life so much easier with the new addition of a new wet saw from inland craft! It was a toss up between this one and the gryphon and I went with the “cheaper” but in my opinion better option. Last St week I decided to add my DIY XR30’s to the display and noticed a bit of growth/coloration, it’s hard to tell if it’s the additional lights or the CO2 scrubbing.. Golden mili 4/9/18 Golden mili 5/29/18 I also have a couple of new acros and a millepora. jigglypuff mili Corallivore’s limelight acro Paletta tricolor acro(back) paletta blue(center) gatorland tenius (front) CR commoner’s envy Lastly my rainbow Yuma has been spitting out babies for the past two months, which I found out WWC has been selling for 150$ a pop 6 babies! That are coloring up in my frag tank 2 Quote Link to comment
This guy is extra salty
After nearly destroying my QT tank I finally found the yellow Coris wrasse that has been in QT for 6 weeks (which I thought died since I couldn’t find it) it was buried in the sand while i watched my pistol shrimp re-aqua scape the tank It shall be called banana.. Getting aquainted to butters and the stooges 2 Quote Link to comment
