Im looking to upgrade my lights, because the touch on/off is a pain with my work schedule. Would any of these lights be an upgrade?

Some updated pics of mine. I had to break it down though since we recently moved to TX.

How are you liking the MicMol? I'm seriously considering it for my Nuvo 10.

I got it on my build and it's great. My old build had the first gen micmol and that was just as good.

Hello Everyone,

I joined here to ask a quick question. This is the only forum I have found that has a nice lengthy discussion on this tank.

I have an Evo 13 but I am using it as a Fresh Water tank.

Is it possible to change the bulb OR does Fluval sell a replacement light kit that pops right in to the the tank cover that uses the 7500k color temperature.

I am not looking to make any modifications or change the aesthetic of the tank. I want to be able to use the exact same light setup just with the correct lamp.

Thanks!!

Question about the filtration, I see on reddit that some users are removing the foam filter.  Any one here doing the same thing? If so, why and what are you using for filter media?

in chamber 1 (the one where water comes in from the main tank), I have an acrylic frame with generic filter floss and the bag of ceramic cylinders that came with the tank.  the frame is by intankaquatics.com which I got on Amazon.  my middle chamber is empty except for the heater that I use.

as I understand it, replacing the large block of foam improves the water flow (even more if you block the little slit between the middle chamber and the main tank, but I have not done that yet).

Im using the foam block and the entire setup as stock from the box.  I bought a slightly more powerful pump at one year.  I toyed with plugging the hole and decided I liked the mid water table suction.  I do wring the foam block out every other water change and rinse it in dirty water.

What do people recommend regarding placement of power heads?  I'm currently cycling the tank so haven't yet put it in but I'm thinking of adding it soon but not sure on placement.  I'm running all the stock lid front and back and my power head is cabled inside the tank with a suction cup so need to consider that in terms of running the cable.

if you have to run a cable to the power head inside the tank and if you do not place the powerhead near the rear of the tank, then the lid will be propped up (or you will need to add something to run the cable along the top so it can exit out the back).

my power head is currently on the opposite corner from the pump, so the lid was propped up.  I wound up replacing my lid and light because I got cranky about how it looked to me.

Added a second AI Prime HD over mine today. Please excuse the dirty sand bed, it's an ongoing battle.

Also in need of some decluttering and getting some frags glued down.

How are the 2 primes working out for you? Currently running one, thinking about getting a second one.

Few questions about the rear chambers. I need to fit my cobalt heater, the 3 water lines for the AutoAqua AWC, 2 sensors for the AWC, the small pump for the AWC and a sensor for the AutoAqua smart level sensor. I'll be using a DIY media basket in chamber 1 and chamber 2 is empty.

Does the water level change in chamber 2 and is it safe to put my heater in there? I really want to keep all of the AWC lines, pump and sensors in the same chamber (I'm thinking 3 is best), but It's too tight with everything in that chamber with the return pump.

I have had my heater in the center chamber for over a year without issue.  I haven’t used media baskets but instead I opted to fabricate a  plastic material flat frame that has bulk filter material glued to it to form a 4x12” rectangle that fits diagonally in chamber one.  Super easy to clean and return.  I have made several for rotation.  I also use  2x6” media bags to run carbon or other media by hanging in the center chamber.  Easy access and simple cleaning techniques are important to maintain high interest over the length of time it takes to get good results.  My story and um sticking to it.

For those of you that built your media baskets, did you block off any of the slots in the baffle between chambers 1 and 2? I noticed the In-Tank chamber 1 basket blocks off the first 3/4 of them.
