New FTS, we picked up some fresh pieces from RAP Orlando...I believe we are just about fully stocked!

Please ignore my over-zealous use of putty on that Bali Slimer...lol...lesson learned :P

Great additions to the reef! How was RAP?

Thank you! My wife and I both enjoyed it immensely!  I can't compare it to any previous RAP, since this was our first...but we had an absolute ball!

So much coral!

We got to chat with a rep from Tropic Marin, and he off-loaded a ton of supplements, foods, and knowledge on us.

Also got to see the new Waterbox AIO and chat with their rep, I'd say that was well worth it since I now have a Waterbox showing up tomorrow...lol

And the new Icecap 1k Gyre that I will be buying...sometime...soon-ish for another build I have in the works...

So much more coral!

We now have enough food and supplements to probably last us until the next RAP, there was so much good swag!

And so much coral!  I can't believe we only walked out with 12 new frags...so bad!

We already marked our calendars for next year ;)

Found this little guy too!  Also, I didn't get a photo, but we spotted Barney the purple shelled stomatella the other night as well, he survived the dino, woohoo!

Here's a fresh FTS for the month of June!

Short synopsis of recent events:  Everything is growing at healthy rates, however, we seem to have lost a group of trochus snails.

Not sure how, no swings in salinity (we top off twice to thrice a day) and no swings in temp (no more than a tenth of a degree).

All other parameters are in the acceptable range, as always.

Oh well, cerith snails are still alive, so are the nassarius, the dead trochus caused a small breakout of cyanobacteria, but we seem to be winning the battle at the moment!

Surprisingly, we haven't lost any of the Ricordea Florida that fought the Platygyra, and lost...lol...they seem to be making a slow come back!

Kind of fighting a little cyano outbreak, so we did a 30% water change yesterday, I also ended up placing the frag I had on the rack and removing it.

No matter what I did, I got all sorts of weird growths on the rack, probably since the CUC couldn't really get to it :P

I couldn't wait for everything to re-open fully, or for the dust to settle...lol, oh well!

[End of] July FTS Update!

We got a nice piece of Green Stylopora from a friend as payment for maintaining his reef while they were out of town!

Also got a few chips of Grinch (?) Montipora that I have plugged up on the frag rack!

Other news, we have a Yuma baby!  Woot!

We did lose our Scooter Blenny, Scoot McGoot.  Despite maintaining a healthy pod population, it just wasn't enough.

Also had one other casualty, the Green Bali slimer we picked up a RAP...can't win them all!  I think I put too much putty on it when I attached it to the rock work, lesson learned.

The Red Slime Remover did its job and we have been free of cyano for some time now...onto the next challenge, turf algae!

Just recently released a small horde of emerald crabs.  I figure once they have done their job, they will make nice meals for our Mantis in the Waterbox.

Other than that...the things continue to grow!  Grow Grow Grow!

I guess I don't have a photo showing the frag rack...soon to come!

Still fighting turf algae, so I began H2O2 dosing to help the crabs, and myself!

Other than that, everything is doing well, thinking about adding a second fish in...maybe a pygmy hawk fish?

I suppose I should update for this system as well!  I really have been slacking!

Where are we at, what has happened over the last 5 months?  Well, a few things:

I removed the 2 Koralia pwoer heads and replaced them with a single Icecap Gyre 1k (More power than ever before!)

What a change!  I had dead spots, now I do not!  Definitely had to fiddle with settings and modes a bunch before I found a placement and schedule that didn't upturn everything in this little tank.

We removed the yellow hammer on the left, it was being bothered by a bunch of zoas that think they are taking over the world...we moved this poor guy into my wife's system and it seems to be coming back from its near death experience.  In its place, I pulled the Candy Stripe Micromussa from the sand bed.  This turned out to be a great move for the Micromussa, it is fluffier than ever, beats back the zoas, and even seems to be happy rubbing up on the Balstomussa...couldn't have hoped for a better outcome.

What else...hm...oh yeah, we are battling a little cyano outbreak...but no big deal, those happen all the time!

The FTS is actually from November, I guess I do not have a recent one, but the other shots are recent from the last week or two:

Nice update. Jealous of those Zoas. I lost several colonies they just melted away a few months ago. That's reefing I guess. Over all your tank looks great some nice growth.

Thank you very much!  Yeah, I have no problem with the zoas, other than them overrunning everything!  Everything even includes other zoas...I had some beautiful Fruit Loops from JSP and some LA Lakers that have both been more or less completely consumed and overrun by those Space Monsters.  I'll see 1 or 2 poking through every once in awhile...

The little buggers have been upsetting my SPS as well, so, it's a double-edged sword.

Here's my February FTS update:

We appear to have defeated the Cyanobacteria...again...lol...

Turf algae has not come back!

My bolstered CUC is keeping the rocks clear :3

And the aiptasia's time is nigh!  Introduced 4 Peppermint Shrimp this past weekend...time will tell...whether or not they will survive the hawk fish long enough to route aiptasia menace!

Wow, I am a supreme slacker...again!

Since its been awhile since I've updated this thread, I guess its time to play a little catch up for the last 6 months XD

The Peppermint shrimp were a huge bust, after a month, they hadn't eaten a single aiptasia...useless!

So we did what we should have done from the start and ordered some Berghia from Reeftown USA (only the finest!)

And then we hunted those peppermint shrimp...after a couple late nights of hunting and trapping, we were able to remove all 4!

The mantis shrimp, on the nightstand, then became well fed 😉

On the first night of the hunt, we scared one into giving birth...check out the video of the lil' shrimp babes here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/kUn4s3NWqiayZ12AA

And, as expected, the Berghia did their job and eliminated the aiptasia, once again!

I was even able to collect 2 egg clutches and moved them into my little nightstand nano. (a story that will be on another thread)

After we broke down my wife's Waterbox 10g AIO, the pair of clown's were donated to the LFS where they were quickly adopted, but we decided to keep her BTA and nurse it back to health in here.  So far, so good!

We also decided to remove the HOB filter, it seemed to just be collecting detritous, and I was tired of cleaning it out...so we have been full dirty for about 3 months now...no regrets!

Oh no!  And we lost our hawk fish, I found him all dried up in my hat next to the tank one day after work...poor little fella :,(

He was replaced with a lawnmower blenny, we needed more vegetation control.

Since then, its been pretty smooth sailing other than our current re-breakout of cyanobacteria...does that stuff ever go away?

Has anyone removed all of there sand bed and put new sand in?  I fear that's where the bulk of the nutrients are residing...

I just treated the system again with the ol' Red Slime Remover, we'll see how it goes...

And lettuce algae...enough to feed a horde of herbivores!  I've been removing it manually bi-weekly or monthly...the clean-up crew won't touch it, the lawnmower blenny doesn't eat it...any suggestions?  We don't have room for anymore fish...

Oh yeah, and we have a new frag...I broke a tip off of the Millipora while I was doing the last water change, so I glued it to a plug and it has been doing well!  Apparent growth after only 2 weeks!

I'll try and update again sooner than later...but in the meantime, enjoy some photos!

Could it be!?!  Have we finally defeated the Cyanobacteria!?!  Time will tell, right?  Got a nice water change in yesterday, moved some Yumas out into the Nightstand Nano and then hit it hard with some hydrogen peroxide (why ALL the zoas are closed up) for any free-floating algae/cyano bits :3
