To Sand or Not To Sand -- That is the question

I've used all new sand in an established tank, no effects at all besides clean sand.

 

I've taken sand out and washed it and replaced, no effects but clean sand

 

In the Pico jar I have completely washed the whole bed and then replaced, no effects besides getting rid of algae issues.

 

Rinsing sand prior to use can reduce the silt, which reduces issues one can encounter.

 

I've used livesand without rinsing. Cleared in 2hrs and no issues.
