clowntank10
i am going to setup a 20 gallon tank. i am downgrading from my 55 gallon tank. the twenty gallon tank is going to be a regular one. i have 35 pounds of live rock the same for live sand. i have a maroon clown a diadema pseudo and cleaner shrimp. i intend to have a back pack fuge. i am going to use for lighting 2X65 watt pc fixture all 10,00k bulbs. is this enough light to keep sps? i intend to keep a mixed reef but with sps dominant. i am going to use teh same rock, sand water and etc from my 55 so im knida sure i dont have to cycle again. big question is kan i do sps in this tank. i intend to add two more fish. 4 fish at the most.. so how does it sound Link to comment
cadesun
although some can keep sps under intense pc lighting, i would not risk it. save yourself some money and buy halides. even if the sps corals do not die under PC, it is highly unlikely that they will show any growth. also, i would go with three fish instead of four, especially since your maroon is going to get 6" long and produce A LOT of waste. trust me, i have one. just my two cents. balla816
is it a 20 long or a 20 high????????it makes a difference because a 20 long is alot more shallow then the 20 high Link to comment
Samc
He said it was a regular-for a mixed tank go with a 150 watt de, but since sps will be prominant, and it is a relativly deep tank, a 250 might be better Link to comment
clowntank10
how bout circulation. what should i use. im going to be using a huge hang on tank filter. ill grow macro algea in it. so that should provide some circulation. i aslo have one maxijet 1200 powerhead. can anyone give me recomendations on good powerheads or waht i should add to the tank for good circulation. i dont know if i should run a skimmer or not the small old one i have a visijet blows a lot of bubble but i guess it puts oxygen in the tank. it is not a very good skimmer but is dose skimm a little. i will try to get my 20gal tank today if possible and set it up. Withers
try the maxijet, they're very well made powerheads. if it's too powerful (blows your sand around) then i guess look for a less powerful one. if you plan to have 4 fish in the tank, i would suggest running a skimmer... but not the visijet. those things are supposed to be run through a sump where micro bubbles aren't noticed. so everytime you turn the flow on just a little bit, you'll have a ton of bubbles, which i'm sure you've already noticed. look into a prizm, or a CPR bak-pak 2 (or 2r). you can usually find them used for pretty cheap, and they don't take up any tank space. cadesun
i would not reccomend a prizm, they are notoriously cantancarous, but a bakpak or a remora would be great for your tank. ebay usually sells them pretty cheap (like anything is actually cheap in this hobby!). Link to comment
