Nelson Posted May 1, 2018 Author Share Posted May 1, 2018 Just an update on the goby: He eats from day one and for now I feed him twice a day artemia mixed with reef roids. He swims to the surface to nip at the syringe, which I use to target feed. He eats a lot. He only swims for food. Sometime I saw the typical goby swim behaviour, which looks like the movement of an iguana in the sand. Very uncontrolled haha I think 2 gallons is pushing the limits with a fish, see some algea growth on the glass. How to see if he is happy or stressed? I cleaned the tank and replaced the sand bed and changed the aquascape a bit. Maybe I was overfeeding. I have a hard time removing the blue from the photos. 1 Quote Link to comment

Nelson Posted May 22, 2018 Author Share Posted May 22, 2018 The goby eats well. He eats things like brine shrimp, salmon and codfish. Unfortunately he bites the bubble coral tentacles at night, pissing of the bubble and forcing it to retract. Most of the time it is the other way around haha. Ofcourse it is my fault locking him up in such a small prison. Maybe he is bored or frustrated. My snail is not moving (because of dinos?). Good learning curve this pico. I tried doing a blackout... ...blocking the window light... ... but it didn’t help unfortunately. Dinos urghhh Quote Link to comment

Perhaps adding the fish so early on may have been a bad idea. Best to start with a clean up crew and get the biological filtration to take hold first. I would just restart, and let your tank cycle with some shrimp. Add bottled bacteria to the tank to get the cycle started. You can just let your tank sit there cycling until ready to start again, and get back at it, 🙂 Quote Link to comment

Hope you come back to the hobby soon, it can be super discouraging to lose everything (I've had two tank crashes in my time in the hobby where I lost everything) but it's so rewarding I keep coming back for more. Nelson Posted July 2, 2018 Author Share Posted July 2, 2018 Just an update: I was under the impression the corals were gone, but they started opening up again. I started dosing peroxide every day and this helped, but dinos are still visible. I removed the sandbed and just finished upgrading to an ada 45f. This week I will bring a visit to the lfs to pick up a goby and a wavemaker :). Pics will follow Quote Link to comment
ReefFish Posted July 2, 2018 Share Posted July 2, 2018 I don't think you need or want to have a wavemaker in a ADA 45-F tank that is only 4.6 gallons? After you had the 2 gallon tank crash you should holdout on getting a Goby and let the tank cycle right this time first Quote Link to comment
JBM Posted July 3, 2018 Share Posted July 3, 2018 Fish is not advisable at this time. A wave maker or a very small closed loop would be awesome & help keep all of your water moving. Im not sure there is anything premade that will work well in a tank that small. You might end up having to custom think something up... Maybe the smallest jebao dc pump and some 1/4 or 1/2" pvc. I know @Ranjib has a fantastic micro controller using a raspberry pi that might suit your needs. Quote Link to comment

Yes, this tank is easier to maintain (shallow profile) and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start a nano reef, except for the jebao ow10 being too strong. Maybe the 60F is better suitable for the jebao... I am now running natural filtration only consisting of live rock, rubble (from the ac20 package) and chaeto in the ac20 and it is low maintenance (with my low bioload). Unfortunately, I need to break it down sometime when I move from my student room to another place. On the downside the clown is too lazy, sitting in the flower pot whole day long and waits for food to flow near him. On the upside, I don't have to fear for him jumping out of the aquarium 😂 2 Quote Link to comment
