This guy is extra salty

Are you running your lights?

when I cycled my 32 I didn’t use lights cause i was afraid of having algae issues

What is your nitrate?

Phantom feeding may help you

Just do a large enough water change to lower ammonia AND nitrite below 5 ppm.  When either gets above 5 ppm, the cycle slows down considerably.  Then let it become undetectable again.

This brings back memories, mine took a while to come down but it eventually did. There are bacteria products that some use to speed up the cycle.

so all of a sudden nitrite dropped to ~1ppm

used whatever bacteria i use in my freshwater tank, its API

still gonna cycle lights off for now

doing big water change once its gone so i will be ready for fish

Thx for advice!

Just remember, patience is definitely a virtue in reefkeeping. Try to find things that keep you interested without wanting to hurry things along too much. A mature, established biofilter (bacteria in the rocks and sand) takes a while and it's worth the wait, long term.

So what actually caused the nitrite to go down?  Additional external bacteria?  And/or 6 gallon water change?

so i think is was the added api stress zyme that did it. Havent done the water change yet.
