Jessy-Ray
So I took down my old RSM 130 a few years ago when I started working fifo and regretted it right away. I work a normal job again and stopped talking myself out of starting again. I thought about restarting the old RSM but knew I wanted to go bigger. I came across the reefer series and was quickly convinced they were the solution. I've picked up a reefer 250 and am about 90% done setting it up (filling it with SW now) The floor the tank is on is a long way from level and it took a fair bit of shimming to get right but I managed to get it pretty well spot on eventually. Equipment Tank: RSR 250 Lights: 2x AI Hydra 26 on DD slimline mounts Return pump: Sicce syncra "silent" 3.5 Flow pump: Vortech mp40 Skimmer: Eshopps S-120 ATO: Tunze osmolator 3155 Heaters: 2x eheim jäger 150w Chiller: Hailea hc-150 fed by Sicce 1.0 1 Quote Link to comment
Water Dog
Nice start! What are your stocking plans for fish and coral? 1 Quote Link to comment
Jessy-Ray
Thanks mate, the current stocking list fish wise is Ocellaris pair Purple Firefish Royal Gramma Possum or 6 line wrasse and a Dragonet Im going to try to get another WA target dragonet like I had in the RSM but if I can't I will get a mandarin. Coral wise the tank will be LPS dominant with a lot of Euphyllia. A small amount of SPS, some softies and a clam or two (aquacultured down the road from my house) 1 Quote Link to comment

Andreww
Nice tank , how do you like those DD slimline mounts? 1 Quote Link to comment
Jessy-Ray
Overall I'm happy with them, the only thing I don't like is how bulky the clamps and screws are. I'm going to give the screws a trim and then it should be fine. Quote Link to comment
Jessy-Ray
So the tank has cycled and I’m ready to start adding livestock. I have added the start of the cuc (lfs was really light on stock so got what they had) I have had 2 brand new heaters fail in the on position straight out of the box, lucky it’s summer so I don’t actually need them just yet. I’m thinking it’s time to go for an Apex for the peace of mind on the temp control front alone. Here are are some really nice hitchhiker macroalgae that came with the rubble I used to seed the tank. Any ID would be appreciated. Another hitchhiker I don’t have an ID for, I have seen these before but I can’t remember the name. Video included is sped up 3x 1 Quote Link to comment
Indiana Reefin
Really nice tank!!! I want to get a Red Sea 170 soon! I would definitely recommend a controller. Apex is the best overall but if you just want a controller for your heater and maybe some dosing pumps down the road. I would suggest a Reefkeeper lite. I have one and it works great Quote Link to comment
Andreww
I know Apex gets a lot of love these days but my favorite has to be the GHL ProfiLux. I know I’m going with that when time comes. Quote Link to comment

SeaFurn
I’ve been waiting an entire year to see how this tank turned out! Looks great! How bad did it get? Quote Link to comment

How bad did it get? It was pretty bad couldn’t see in the tank for two or three months. First water test had alk at 4.3 dkh and all other parameters were not much better. I was about to tear it down but decided not to and now I’m back on top of it. Quote Link to comment
Jessy-Ray
A final update to the least consistent tank journal of all time. the tank is coming down soon as I’m upgrading to a Cade pr2-1200 (dream tank for me size wise and the features on this are pretty much unbeatable imo) the tank has been going really well since I got back into it, moved houses and the tank came out unscathed. Had a doser malfunction which spiked the alk 5 points overnight and bleached my oldest torch 😭 will be keeping most of the livestock and transferring it to the new tank when it’s setup. 2 1 Quote Link to comment

When does the upgrade begin? Thank you very much 🙏 the upgrade is officially under way. the reefer is now empty and someone is coming to pick it up over the weekend and then I pick the new tank up the following weekend. All the livestock is in a 15 gallon holding tank right now which has convinced me to have a nano running as well as the new tank oops.
