Muffin
A little update on the pico: apparently I should have thought about those dwarf dart fish and no lid... Poor guys jumped a few days after getting them. Fortunately this left the tank open to rehab this clown. Other than that some shrooms are growing fast, while some are taking their time. Also I added a pom-pom crab that only comes out at night. 1 Quote Link to comment
Muffin
An update on the pico: both this tank and my main tank were subjected to neglect in the previous month (finishing up college). I guess at some point the pump seized up on the HOB refugium, fortunately this didn't cause an effect to the inhabitants. Luckily the pump didn't break, so I set it up on my Nuvo 20 to recycle the rock (eventually I'll think about adding it back to this system). Also I got a new camera, so hopefully my image quality will start to improve (macro lens in the future). The last thing that I'm super excited about is that I finally saw the pom-pom crab last night when the lights were on. It's such a neat critter. 2 Quote Link to comment

Muffin
Thanks, it's a little rough around the edges, but it's getting there. Can't wait to see everything grow in. 1 Quote Link to comment
bryanphillips
Even with “neglect” looks great ?? Quote Link to comment
Reefkid88
Love the tank,I lived my aquamaxx pico. I love all the shrooms too. Quote Link to comment
Muffin
Beginning of June update: Now that I'm done with school, I have more time for maintenance. I'm actually planning on starting regular water changes lol now that I'm breaking the rules even more an additional fish (keeping a close eye on stress and health of the fish though). I found a nebula clown that I couldn't pass up. And another FTS: Future directions of the tank: 1.) Removing the middle "lavender" mushroom, I don't really like it too much and it's growing too big too fast - it will either be fragged or completely removed by the next update. 2.) Adding back the HOB refugium 3.) Possibly removing the sand, not really content with it. I like the aesthetics, but I'm not a big fan of vacuuming the sand. 4.) Getting an ATO - I forgot how annoying manually topping off a tank is. Is the smart pico ATO any good? PS - for the people who are likely to be annoyed with the 2 clowns in a pico, this is not their long-term home, they will be moving into a 40 breeder in the coming future. Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
I like the Smart Micro ATO. Mine has worked very well. Definitely the right size for your tank. I like your new clown. Quote Link to comment
Muffin
Thanks me too lol it was to hard to resist to get her, I've been wanting a nebula for quite a while now. And thanks for the recommendation, next on my buy list. 1 Quote Link to comment
TheRope
Man i personally wouldnt change anything im in loveeee with that mushroom and the sand bed looks incredible, maritza the vase reef hasnt touched her sandbed in 5 years, so based on her experimentation you really dont need to vacume it that much, as itll let the beneficial bacteria grow undisturbed. If youre worried about stagnant build up add in a nassarius snail or two. Once again, i love how this tank is coming along Quote Link to comment

Somehow this tank is thriving with such low maintenance, I think I've only done like maybe 7 water changes since the creation of it lol. 1 Quote Link to comment

Welp mushrooms dont really suck nutrients out of the water like sps do, also they are fairly hardy! (Im envious hahah) Quote Link to comment
Muffin
I agree with you there, my main tank is definitely not as forgiving to neglect lol, looks alot uglier than this after a dino bloom. 1 Quote Link to comment
Muffin
I'm not being lazy anymore with this tank (at least until I find a full-time job lol)! Today I did ~ 100% water change and added the HOB live rock holder, I figured enough time has passed where I can trust the rock in it again. I also kinda re-scaped a little bit to hide the pumps and heater better. A little FTS, the corals are still a little annoyed after the water change. Here are the hidden pumps in more detail: I think it looks a little better now, and the flow is more evenly distributed. 1 Quote Link to comment
TheRope
Absolutely fantastic! It looks inredible!!! Quote Link to comment
Muffin
Pre-vacation water change. Moved a few mushrooms around, the OG didn't like the flow so I moved it. Trying to figure out what to put in the top left, it looks a little empty. The clowns are past the honeymoon phase Nebula is teaching the black snowflake who's the boss, however she isn't going at him too hard and he is submitting immediately. 1 Quote Link to comment

Not sure what coral youd want to add to the mushrooms but the back left would be cool for a hammer/frogspawn, or a nepthea, some nice cloves or cool toadstool! Quote Link to comment

I think I'm keeping with the mushroom theme lol, I was thinking about getting a candy crush mushroom but they are orange and I already have too many orange mushrooms. Probably going to get a kryptonite or something that isn't orange. If I go for a different type of coral I'll probably get that koji wada pink nepthea 1 Quote Link to comment

Muffin
Turns out the rainbow Yuma doesn't like bounces lol, decided to sting the crap out of 2 bounces. They seem a little unhappy, but I put them in my main system for recovery. Also I made an Instagram for the tank: pico_reefer Quote Link to comment
