GenericReefer
Hey guys! I got into saltwater fish keeping around a month ago, and I'm invested! With help from all you guys, setup was a breeze! Next week I'm looking to add my first fish: A clownfish! And a couple more weeks after that, my first corals .o. I do have some questions on coral placement. I'm getting an Aquamaxx Nemolight Nano (For a 5g tank.. did I mention that? It's 5g :P) The list of coral I'd like to add include: (Soft corals)- Mushroom, Toadstool, Xenia, GSP, Clove Polyps, Kenya Tree There is one big arch, one small islands, and two medium sized ones. None connect with each other. What corals should be placed where, for their best growing results? And what about dosing? And if it's possible, some seaweed. Can you give some species that don't go sexual or release toxins back into the water? Thanks I'll keep you guys updated! Quote Link to comment
Subsea
Nice rockrock. I laughed when you said “I am vested”. I have been doing this for > 45 years. I am a reefer and I am addicted. Your softie choices are good. Both Xenia and GSP are fast growers. I would not use both together in a Pico. I so much like the motion of the pulsing Xenia. But then again, the bright lime iridescence of a 4’ wall of GSP is nice also. I always recommend less light with softies. With th respect to macros, Red Grapes are collected between 60’ -120’ of water. At that depth with lighting in the blue spectrum, they are drab looking to the eye. The grapes are a vibrant burgundy color under 12K led lighting. https://www.marineplantbook.com/marinebookbotryo.htm First picture is of a 25 year old 75G Jaubert Plenum with a 30G EcoSystem mud macro refugium. Second and third picture are two differrent 55G growout tanks. In the third picture is a Green Sinularia species I have had > 30 years. It is a leather coral and could be your signature coral. In any case, enjoy the passion. 2 Quote Link to comment
Ryebreadiest
Great start! It sounds like you are married to your aquascape, but have you thought about using a little less rock? Corals like the Kenya Tree are going to make that design fill in FAST and I bet you will be thinking about thinning things out in 6 months I think less rock in smaller tanks makes them look bigger as well, and lets not even bring up difficulty in cleaning. 2 Quote Link to comment

GenericReefer
Update 3: During this time, I've made many changes, and changed many of my plans, too. I scrapped my plans for having a refugium/sump (too much work), so I'm working on creating an HOB filter/refugium/algae reactor... thing instead. Equipment Same equipment New Additions (Being delivered) : - Marina Hang-On Breeding Box, Large - Tetra Whisper Air Pump (10g size) Livestock Same livestock New Additions: - Palau Green Nepthia - Tryee Green Polyp Toadstool Upcoming plans! 1. Set up the HOB disaster-to-be 2. Add more softies 3. Remove sandbed or replacing with a GSP mat? 4. (This list is getting overambitious..) Add some coralline spores and mangroves 5. (Yes, there's still more) Add a shrimp (cleaner, likely) when params have absolutely stabilized Quote Link to comment
GenericReefer
Not really an update, but I'm trying this on my toadstool. Has this worked for any of you on your softies? Quote Link to comment
