ffoott
Hello! I recently tried to make a diy project evolving a 12g AIO. Couple days ago i assembled the actual glass panels for it. The internal filter part to come later. However, I noticed today some irregularities with the seams on the panels that I worry may be of significance. Here are some pictures: Please share your thoughts! Here are some more Edited January 14, 2018 by ffoott Silicone problem fixed...kind of a build thread now. Quote Link to comment
sapling
first of all congrats on trying out building a tank, I dont think I've seen much people on nano reef with DIY tanks, usually some airbubbles are okay and is just attributed to being a novice at assembling the panes, applying the bead and such. small amounts wont affect the structural integrity of the seam if its still done correctly. but the fourth picture makes me a little concerned, if you can watch them while the tank is full for a week, if the seams get worse(bubbles spreading) then you need to take it apart and clean then resilicone. otherwise, if it doesn't spread then the joint should be good structurally what silicone did you use for the job? an rtv type or aqueon? Also how was the attempt overall? the lines dont look smooth and look like it may have already started getting tacky/skinning/curing by the time you pushed them into the corners? Im worried if the seams arent sealed correctly it can cause leaks eventually even though the actual seams will still hold the panes. Quote Link to comment

First of all, i apologize for the lack of response, for some reason didn't notice i'd received a reply! I live in Portugal, so its possible the brand isn't known there. I used Soudal aquarium silicone. The tank was indeed leaking from the bottom panel. I emptied the tank, removed all the silicone beads and reapplied them. Been up and running since then ^^ As you mentioned few DIY tanks exist here, ill post some of the setup and progress photos. Hope you enjoy! PS: The 1st diagram is "stolen" from the IM Nuvo 10, didn't really feel like making my own xD 1 Quote Link to comment
ffoott
That's about it! Was fortunate enough to be able to cut the acrylic for the filter / sump using a jewelers laser cutter, so the finishing on it was perfect. Will be getting my G. Smithii in there soon 1 Quote Link to comment

ffoott
Hello guys, Just a quick update on the tank (3 months today). Sadly my Mantis Shrimp died during a shipping mishandling. Just a few corals for the time being, but a trip to the mainland next month will hopefully change that. Enjoy Quote Link to comment
