JoeR
Coral shipment arrived today, after being in the mail since MONDAY. Thanks, FedEx. Here’s what the facility looked like according to a stranger on a FB coral page; When I got the box, it was wet and smelled horrible. Got home and found out it was my Cyphastrea, the future “moon” of my pico. It was so disgusting and rotted, and naturally that was the only one that had the bag leak. The heat pack was cold to the touch and the coral bags were cool as well. The nine zoa frags I got may or may not make it, I definitely don’t have my hopes up though. Here they are on my three gallon frag rack; 1 2 Quote Link to comment

Do you have any Lugol's iodine you could use for a dip? I find it can help ailing corals recover, I used it on all my stuff when I moved last year. Also, if that's rust on your rack there, be careful as it can be bad for the reef. 1 Quote Link to comment

Sadly I don’t have the iodine, I put it in my amazon cart a long time ago and just forgot about it. I need to get at least some type of dip for sure though. There may be a bit of rust on it, I’ll go check real quick Quote Link to comment

It's not a complete miracle worker but I have seen it help. 1 Quote Link to comment

Yeah it would of been great to have some iodine for the zoas, would have probably helped a lot. My poor cyphastrea on the other hand wouldn not have benefited, it was long gone... 3 Quote Link to comment

JoeR
Well this is longggg overdue! Not my fault this time though, with FedEx loosing my package and what not. So huge shoutout to Alien Aquatic's on Facebook for the amazing zoas! They were fantastic to work with despite issues with FedEx that were out of their control. They were very responsive and have great customer service, definitely go out of their way to make sure their customers are happy. Their prices are competitive to say the least as well and the corals I received are super healthy! They opened up immediately in my tank and look wonderful, very vibrant. I CANNOT wait till these guys take over the tank! And although they’re small, I’m in love with the rastas and purple people eaters! And the utter chaos are insane too! Just wait till y’all see the other zoas I got that aren’t in this tank yet! 5 1 Quote Link to comment

There’s also an utter peace polyp next to the Baja peninsula too, not quite as vibrant as chaos but also cool. I like all the morphs in here though. 2 Quote Link to comment

You can go to the drug store and buy a bottle of "povidone iodine." It is basically the same as lugols. I use it on all my new purchases. 1 2 Quote Link to comment

JoeR
When I bought the zoas I thought I had quite a variety of colors, but I actually ended up with a lot of red and orange especially near the equator so I added some radioactives for a little variety. One thing I don’t like about this tank is just like with the real Earth, only half the globe gets light. Hence why I only post pictures of North & South America. It’s a shame because the other continents are equally well crafted maybe better. Might be able to position the light directly overhead and fix it. Here’s a shot from my pillow again, showing a little more of Europe and Africa.. Gonna add some shrooms around the base rock the globe sits on too, help differentiate the two. I can’t say how much I love the PPE and Rastas, even though the rastas are closed a bit here... hmm only 15 followers? 6 Quote Link to comment

JoeR
I’ve not been the best poster, I know.. but I got someone with a professional camera to take some update pictures so look forward to one soon. Meanwhile, to build a little “hype”, here’s a peak at what I have goin on right now... 5 Quote Link to comment

Felicia
Hi! Just a reminder to please pm me your February FTS by this Friday 3/2/18. Quote Link to comment
JoeR
Remember a while back I had mentioned I wanted to add a moon component to this tank? Well after my first fiasco loosing the cyphastrea with FedEx, I found another one at the LFS for $5! Pretty nice IMO. But the problem is it is an angular frag, not round like I needed it. So I molded some of that reef concrete putty around it and it’s already starting to encrust around it. I also added a frag of Pandora Zoas for the sun- and they look AWESOME. I used these tiny magnets I got off amazon to suspend them: Here was the frag before; Without further ado, now just a random photo dump! 5 Quote Link to comment
JoeR
Sorry that you can only see the moon in the last photo and the sun is always blurry 7 Quote Link to comment

I actually had bigger plants for it, including a hermit crab shell shaped like a rocket, but ultimately decided I didn’t want a hermit in the tank. But I do Still need to find a lobster! I also want to add a gorgonian too, need to find one first. Maybe even some macro algae 1 hour ago, Rene said: This is such a unique concept. Did I say that already? It is. I don’t think so, but I appreciate it! I considered a lot of different concepts while in the planning period, from skulls to stacked cubes, but ultimately stuck with a globe. Side note, these are not my official FTS; the globe is tilted too far back in the FJS to see the best zoas so I want to fix that and then submit it. 1 Quote Link to comment
JoeR
I feel like I took too long getting coral in the tank, I had no idea march will be the LAST FTS for the contest! I really wish they would have spread faster. They are all growing just not at the rate I had wished. 1 Quote Link to comment
