Beginner corals

Leathers are fine.  Note that leathers, when in the presence of hard corals will give off slight toxins to discourage encroachment.  This is easily removed with granulated active carbon, GAC.

toadstool leathers can be a very annoying first coral...sometimes they dont open for long periods of time...I had one that did not open for 7 months before I ditched it.

My first corals were a massacre paly colony, a green candy cane and a stylophora sps. They are still doing fine after 7 months.

If you're just looking for softies I would say mushrooms & buttons.

Green star polyps are by far the easiest, but also a PITA once it starts encrusting everything!
