This Saturday will be 7 weeks, been doing weekly dosings of microbe-lift bacteria. I'm going to be taking some water to the lfs this weekend to have all the water tested, or just buy some test kits for myself. I really need to get an ato because I'm quite sick of filling it up with freshwater everyday.

lol Yea an ATO is the way to go. Having one makes owning a tank so much more enjoyable with one less thing to mess with. I picked up the SmartAqua and am really happy with it. Its a little pricey but worth it IMO. Cheapest I found it was $125 at saltwateraquirium.com which wasn't too bad compared to some other sites.

Ok so I have some big news I'm pretty excited about. I was going to wait until next semester or the summer to start my display tank build but I found a deal that was too good to pass up on a used Nuvo 30L in very good condition. It is about 2 hours away and close to someone I was all ready planning on trading some coral with. Sunday I am going to go pick it up along with some nice favia frags.

On another note I got a few more acro frags yesterday in a trade. The tank they came from isn't the best maintained and they were pretty dull looking with almost no color in the tips. After only one day I am amazed at how fast they are coloring up.

I also bought a tank for my next build. Its a nuvo 30L. I still need to build a stand for it and figure out the lighting so its going to be a few months until I get it up and running. Ill probably start a build thread once I get closer.

That's badass man, corals are looking great. Oh btw, since you mentioned your light settings I tried it, pretty happy with the way it looks actually, and the corals seem to be responding really well to those settings.

Thanks some of the new frags were cut recently and I just added them a few hours ago so they still need to heal and color up a bit.

Right now I have blues 100% and the color channel at 60%. I really do like the blue look better. It makes the corals pop so much. I was also watching reefbuilders video on Jasons Fox's grow outs and he pretty much just uses blues with very good results.

I like the 30g btw, thing is going to seem like a palace compared to the 10g. I think the dresser it's on right now would make a good stand, given it's built well enough.

Yea it was a hard decision. I really wanted the 25 lagoon because it would be easier to light but I found a good deal. Plus I have an old skimmer made by euro reef I was planing on using. I had lost the bracket for it and just finished making one in school. I am going for computer integrated machining. So I drew it up in cam software then cut it out on the mill with delrin. I turned the thumb screws out of aluminum on the lathe. It was going to be a tight fit on the 25 lagoon, the chambers on the 30 are much larger. Plus it will give me area to grow cheato if I decide to go that route.

As far as the stand this would probably work with some reinforcement but id like a storage area for the electronics and what not. My dad was a carpenter by trade so he said he would help me make one. If not I have another tv stand similar to the nuvo 10g one in oak but bigger. So we will see how it plays out.

A couple pictures of the skimmer and bracket

Ok so I ordered a wifi smart app controlled power strip off amazon for $32. You have the ability to control the power strip from your phone with an app. It also has scheduling that I set up for the lights. My electronics were a mess so I got everything more organized.

I added a 100ml bag of Purigen and another Koralia nano 240 powerhead. Other than that just some normal maintenance this weekend. No new corals but everything is happy and the SPS are continuing to do well under the light.

That might be the ticket right there! I wish it had 5 or 6 outlets though. Tank is looking good man. Friend of mine gave me a piece of strawberry shortcake to tryout and see how it does.

I wish those skimmers were still made.... The new 30 will be super nice !!!

Yea they were great skimmers, pricey at the time but awesome none the less. The 30 I bought came with a Tunze 9001. I hooked them up side by side and the euro reef one blew it out of the water in performance.

That yellow, red and blue acan/micromussa is incredible.

Did you end up getting that wifi controller?

No I didn't get it. Now that I bought that nuvo 30L I have to focus on getting stuff for that build. The main thing is the lighting for it. I still haven't made my mind up for what I want to do. I was thinking about maybe getting 3 of the asta 20 lights or just the LED clusters and doing a LED/T5 hybrid inside a canopy. If I can get just the led clusters I may design and machine an aluminum heat sink on the CNC mill at school.

Now that this tank is up and going I'm going to start posting most coral pictures to Instagram. Going to try and keep this thread more about the build, maintenance and equipment.

My Instagram for anyone interested

Damn you like reef tanks and fishing, let's be friends lol. Nice redfish btw man.

hahaha yea bro I really enjoy fishing and just being out on the water. I am originally from Baltimore and the fishing wasn't too great so I never got into it much, mainly did crabbing. Now that I'm here on the NC coast the fishing is awesome. I plan on getting into it more and learning where to catch them. I Just have a small boat at the moment. I plan to try and go after the puppy drum, flounder, speckled trout, and maybe some strippers here in the Neuse River

Come to the Tampa area, we have some cool shit to catch down here.

Yea I bet, I haven't been down to Florida in years. I really do need to do that sometime though. For sure on the bucket list, the trick is finding a friend with a boat lol
