Clown79
I got short tentacle plate corals a few months ago. They weren't fully extended or overly fleshy when I got them. On sale items that needed work. They are the only things in my tank with an issue. I can't figure out what the issue is☹ My orange one has tiny tentacles, eats, still has colour but it's not very full. It puffs up at night a bit buy not like what it should be. My blue one. Never seen a tentacle on it. I am just seeing little bumps now but it's still not fleshy and no tentacles. Everything else in my tank is done and Params are stable. The plates are on the sandbed. Is it too much light Too little light Too much flow Too little flow Flow jebao we 2 on w1, low setting Seachem tidal filter Ai prime (peak lighting 1-8pm 2 he ramp up and down 94% b, 90% db , 85% uv and v, white 25%, red 25% green 20%) Params Alk 8.4(dose every 2 days) Ca 425 (same) Mag 1440 Ph 8.1-8.2 Nitrate 5 Phos 0.02 Temp 79 1.025 Test kits: salifert and red sea Quote Link to comment

jambon
Does the blue one have tentacles to extend? It could just take time as they needed saving when you got them. I have an orange plate coral living on my sand bed.. I never purposely feed it but it gets what flows past when I feed the tank. It gets a medium light and flow. Quote Link to comment

What, how much, and how often do you feed them? That problem was in my 10g and it turned out to be testing error. I'm no longer using the red sea handle as it what causing the issues with test results. I also purchased salifert to double check results. The plates are in my 15g. I feed 1-2 times a week. There has been no change to them since I got them. I've seen no improvement. Very flat plates with next to no tentacles on 1 and none on the other. Everything else is fine. Quote Link to comment
seabass
Thanks for that. So what and how much do you feed? I'm not saying that's the problem, but it might be important to know. Quote Link to comment
Clown79
I switch it up. I either feed some mysis not directly in its mouth, I allow them to glide it into their mouth, which they do, so that's good. Or I feed them vitalis Lps pellets. I put a few pieces, never counted. I just place it on them with my pipette. They eat up pretty quickly. I often wonder if it's too much light? Quote Link to comment
seabass
I highly doubt there is too much light for them on the bottom of your tank. I don't know about feeding them pellets. They shouldn't need much of a variety, I'd stick will something softer, like chopped mysis. It doesn't sound like you are doing it, but try not to feed their mouth. Place the food on their tentacles (when they are out). And don't overfeed. They get most of their nourishment from photosynthesis, but do seem to need actual food (whether that comes from fish poo, stray fish food, or target feeding). Quote Link to comment
brandon429
good calls so far. if it was my plate id wait for an 8 week delay while running this action before evaluating, have you had them two mos or better under this kind of care? Quote Link to comment
Clown79
The pellets I feed are soft lps pellets, not standard fish pellets. They are mushy. I don't feed them in their mouths, I place it on their body and allow them to feed themselves. @brandon429i Have had the plates since end of May. Outside of the plates, all my corals are happy and growing. Quote Link to comment
