Sold one and the remaining anemone grew to fill the space the two filled up. She has taken over the rock structure she's on! 1 Quote Link to comment

I hope mine is happy now that it split... this thing has been a pain in the but, staying put for a month then launching off into the depths blowing around in the current, stinging pricey corals ?... now I have two potential nightmares haha!! 1 Quote Link to comment

The tank some of these corals came from had a steady dosing system, so I decided to put 2 drops of B-Ionic part B and 2 drops of Magnesium Tech M and I may do this twice a week. The Rubble Zone rock that I have the Monti on has a green layering and there was a diatom outbreak on the sand bed about a week ago. We've reached a little over a month on this new system. Tonight I'll be doing a water change and then adding a media reactor with chaeto. More to come! Full tank shot Just got a hammer and a pulsing xenia. They started to close up for about a week and after receding, some random tunicates have begun taking over the trumpet stalk. I fed them Wednesday night and they look super happy. Fast forward to around 7pm and the water cleared up a little bit, but not enough for my liking so I did another 4 gallon water change and replaced the Poly-Filter® in the bottom and floss at the top of the filter basket. Water ended up even cloudier? My Params are a little weird my calcium is showing 500ppm (25 drops) on the mix water and 480ppm (24 drops) at the tank on the API test. Everything else is fine - alk is a little high at 10dkh in he Hanna Checker. Last nights water change went well except for my diy refugium massacre. Kent Marine Cyclone media reactor... fail... After the water change I hooked this up with chaeto inside and leaked everywhere at the lid and at the rate of included Aqueon 98gph/ 1.63 gallons per minute all over the floor. It took about 30 seconds to notice it and another 3 or 4 to turn off the pump. I then secured the lid once more, turned it back on... only to leak more water all over the place and a bunch of chaeto crumbs into the sump. Removed the reactor from the system, corrected the tube into the lid fittings, screeed back on the cap and noticed it doesn't quite fit right. I think the tube inside the reactor wasn't precision cut and is keeping the lid from sitting flush. Hook everything back up... water all over the floor... tighten the lid more for increased water on the floor, and anything else like the shelf I installed. I though maybe it was too tight so I loosened the top, nope even more water on the floor!!! 2 Quote Link to comment

I'm thinking there's something wrong with this batch of reef crystals... my Mag reading is over 1500. Took the full syringe of reagent plus a little more, and the calcium and alk is a little on the high side, 500ppm and 10dkh. Quote Link to comment

So far I've got some good growth going on!! @jesseatam 45 days after the transfer/ set up of this build and the Ledtrik Par38 is 16" above water and still causing tufts of hair algae. It's really hard to see I've been keeping an eye on it and today I've noticed no it's starting to bloom up. The black figi sand does a great job hiding algae but you really need to see if there's algae so you can manage it! Im not dosing because my parameters have remained near perfect and I really blame the RedSea Reef Energy for diatoms and algae. My LFS has some algae and maybe it can also be attributed to using their RO and they don't deionize. I took a cup of their RO water up there and was going to have them test it so I could use that as a tool to make sure their system is in tip top or at least persuade them to change a cartridge or add a deionizing component but when I got my water jugs out of the car I decided I didn't have an extra hand for the sample test cup and didn't want to deal with it. The owner is a really nice older gentleman, always in slacks, dress shoes and a polo which is cool because I'm always in slacks, dress shoes and a button up. He has some great employees you can become friends with as well. They have a little bit of an algae problem so you need to buy corals the day they come in or take caution and cut the plugs off. They have five 125 gallon systems each independent to their own sumps and one has flat worms but they're are blooming wih coralline, filled with codium and covered in turf algaes. The tanks are healthy and they have little individual coral and reef 10 gallons run on air stone filters under some powerful lights that are flourishing. A little branch of their own crystal frogspawn is $39 but most of the other corals are reasonably priced. They order anything I ask them to order and I'm slowly getting more variety added in. Many only drawback is no matter where you go in the city, nobody runs perfect systems. Nothing is like Tidal Gardens up north. Each store has their own individual pests and nuisances. The store up in Dayton has like a 20k gallon system with a 12ft tall filtration components. But they aren't climate controlled and in the summer everything bleaches. On top of that there's always a uv serilizer bulb or Protein skimmer down that the owner never fixes it so their fish never last more than a month or two. I've purchased several box fish and a couple blennies and nothing survives. (I have saltwater fish fish that are 6 years old so it's not me!) The corals are always bleached in the summer and they have some nice cheap corals that can be nursed back to life. Theres 3 shops within 5 minutes of my house: the one is filled with aptaisia, the other one doesn't have a coral for less than $80 and all their fish have ich and the one I do all my business regularly has somewhat of an algae issue. 2 Quote Link to comment

I have a colony of two different zoanthids and I had a superate colony of just those orange ones, which have completely died off within the last two weeks, and the orange ones in this colony are dying off but the yellow ones are fine...
