Lingwendil's 20 long

Well, this has been set up for a little over a year. Originally I had set it up after a couple year hiatus from reefing (relocated and didn't have the room at the next couple places) in a 25 gallon (aquarium masters, same footprint as a 20 high) and swapped it all over to get a better layout for aquascaping and lighting coverage.

I'm a simple man, so I'm running a Maxi-jet 600, a Zoo-Med 501 canister (mainly for a sponge and media) and an Aqueon Pro heater. Lighting is currently a DIY rig in a RapidLED designer heatsink, with a Luxeon Lime and a pair of "10W" chinese (one blue, one that is 1/3 cool white, and 2/3 royal blue) multichips per side. I currently have a couple BlueAcro Acrostar test boards on the way to swap in though! The current light isn't as blue as I like, but looks pretty good for how cheap and dirty it is. It's got a slightly warmer than 14k look, and the pics are actually pretty accurate to how it really looks.

I have a pair of misbar clowns, because the five year old wanted one, and you can't have just one! These suckers were just a bit longer than a quarter when I got them, and now are a good 2.5" or so. The larger one is a deep orange, and the smaller one is almost stark yellow. The starry Blenny (the five year old named him "Fluffy" and it stuck!) is a very happy and enernaining puppy of a fish, definitely the star of the tank.

Now for some terrible Pics-

It's been up for a while, so I've got some nice coralline growth, and a ton of micro-dusters...

large.IMG_20170729_153908.jpg.dfffaf2493

Got a nice little Pipe Organ (one of my personal favorite corals!)

large.IMG_20170729_143927.jpg.aed03c7141

Even have a little frag of the guy (from a piece that was hanging by a thread when I first bought it, will be neat to watch the growth over time)

large.IMG_20170729_143912.jpg.94e70c8485

Nice little neon green tipped Toadstool (with baby that is ready to separate) next to what I believe is a Piece of Leptastrea?

Better pic of the Leptastrea-

large.Optimized-IMG_20170729_143816.jpg.

Nice little Duncan starter frag-

large.IMG_20170729_143803.jpg.68692e0c94

This Montipora was turd brown and about the size of a quarter when I first got it eight months ago, now it's about seven inches across, and ready to divide up at the back side...

large.IMG_20170729_143749.jpg.9028b12e04

Here's a little piece of it that grew from a quarter-inch sized bit that stuck to an adjacent rock before the tank switchover, it's still got a lot of the original brown coloration...

large.IMG_20170729_143757.jpg.6075d5f2b9

The stupid Zoas that just plain refuse to grow or die-

large.IMG_20170729_143831.jpg.ba09f060b8

And the stupid little frag of it that fell off one day on its own...

large.IMG_20170729_143849.jpg.08428eb6ef

Here's Fluffy, in one of his favorite spots to hide at whenever I try to get a pic with my phone...

large.IMG_20170729_143901.jpg.580a5af377

This guy has a ton of subtle little details that make him very handsome, if he will ever sit still...

large.Optimized-IMG_20170729_153633.jpg.

My nutrient export? Weekly water changes, and recently a small clod of Chaeto, just threw this in and we will see how fast it grows...

large.Optimized-IMG_20170729_143947.jpg.

The plan is eventual LPS domination, Blasto, Acans, maybe some torch, hammer, frogspawn... I want a Bubble coral or Elegance, but the ones I seem to always come across are either huge or stupid expensive. Not a big SPS guy, but maybe a couple Acro some Hydnophora, and Pavona. Once I figure out the new light I want some more Zoas but I never seem to have good luck with them!

I'll try to get better pics up soon, and get some pics of the light setup. Pretty basic but a pretty decent setup, and soon it will be even better!

Thanks! Slowly adding stuff here and there, but this last year has been busy. Managed to make it to my favorite LFS (All About Fish in Pleasant Hill, been going there since I was little) and grab a couple frags for $10 each, what I believe to be either an Acan or Micromussa, and what I'm reasonably sure to be an Acan or similar.

First, a terrible pic of the clowns showing the difference in color between them...

Fragged up the monti, I've been meaning to for a while, separated it into a few dime sized bits...

Side shot of that one...

One of the two new ones, about 2.5" or so...

What I think is a lordhowensis...

Which Fluffy had to take a look at, and start cleaning up...

Hopefully I'll grab a few more things on payday.

Welcome to the super basic LPS dominated 1 year old 20L club! I've got one too. :)

I love Starry Blennys, they are so unique-looking and cute at the same time. They are at the top of my dream fish list. That is, if I ever decide I want a fish. I'm more of an invertebrate gal plus I don't want to add daily feeding to my list of chores. I struggle just remembering to feed my shrimp/coral every 4 days.

I really like the Leptastrea, the Pipe Organ and Fluffy!!

I'd love to have a Starry Blenny if I didn't have to worry about them eating all the Macros, I've always thought they looked really cool.

I love this tank, I like to keep it simple too and I think you're doing it exactly right.  The misbar/different colored clown pair is really neat and unique, I'm jealous!

Just now, DAP said:

Very nice, and good coral growth.  Are you running a skimmer ?

Nope! I don't bother with skimmers unless it's on a big tank with lots of fish waste. I've gotten the best growth and results without them on smaller systems.

Not much in the way of updates. I moved, and while moving discovered a handsome pair of colonies of tunicates. Grabbed some deep burgundy Cyphastrea, some GSP, and a frag of Jason Fox Jack o lantern leptoseris. Better pics soon.

Not much new, got a secret Santa gift from the NR secret Santa exchange already! Hydor Koralia pump!

Moved the older MJ pump out (that I had been wanting to replace anyway) and put it in-

Much better. Way less cluttered, and the more turbulent flow keeps everything in suspension much better.

I went and fragged up my two chalice corals, separated the baby toadstool frag from the monti it was sharing a plug with, and re-glued down the pipe organs to plugs. Starting to fill up my little rack!

Terrible pictures as usual, but you get the idea.
