Update:

Maybe I'm moving a little bit too fast....but my LFS had three tiny frags for $5 each and I couldn't resist: Xenia, a Ricordea, and a Mushroom. The mushroom is SUPER tiny. I acclimated them using a drip. The Xenia looked ugly as f**k and when I placed it in the tank it blossomed up; same with the Ricordea. I tied the Xenia to a piece of rock using a string (don't kill me please). The Ricordea is attached to a piece of conch; it's some sort of shell. The Mushroom is attached to some piece of live rock. Tomorrow I'll be doing a water change and changing out the filter floss.

I really like the colors of the ricordea!! And the xenia - you did what I would do - you can't see the string. The girl at the LFS told me to put a rubber band around it and a rock. What? Nope. Ugly. That mushroom is gonna be gorgeous.

I don't know what your parameters are and you will probably get seven thousand and one contradicting opinions but here's what I've done when it comes to acclimating...

1. Shrimp & Crabs - Drip and temp acclimate but the poor man's way by dumping in one-fourth cup of aquarium water every fifteen minutes for an hour.

2. Fish - Temp and drip acclimate but not to the extent of the shrimp and crabs. A few dashes of tank water every couple of minutes for fifteen - this is especially if I know what the salinity of the store's tank is. By the way, I always ask what the salinity is so I know how slowly or quickly to take things.

3. Anemones and corals - temp acclimate for one-half hour. Dump 'em in. This was the instruction given to me by SaltCritters when I placed my one and only delivered order. Float them for one-half hour and throw them in. They even said if one drip acclimates it voids all warranties. I've done this with all mine so far and all are thriving.

Yeah - the guy used this logic - not verbatim: you're stuck in a building and it's on fire and smoke is everywhere. The strapping, burly, brave fireman is not going to drag you towards the door that leads to safety and fresh air a foot at a time, is he? NO! Praise Jeebus! He's going to sling you over his brute shoulder and rush you to 100% fresh air. Let the reef say amen.

Update:

My hammer and ricordea are doing great. GSP are alright, I wish I picked a better frag. The ricordea is expanding over to the rock! :haha:

No worries, GSP will be attempting world tank domination soon enough. ;)

@Lula_Mae

I kinda want that because I want a little mount or island of it LOL

I LOVE the look of soft corals so I think I'll be avoiding SPS and the stony looking ones completely

Hi Lugmos. I have a question for you. I have an Evo coming next week and I was wondering if you had kept the stock light and how it's been working out for you.

@TinyOcean Hey there, The light seems to be working well. I only have hammer, mushroom, ricordea and two zoa heads and they responded fine to the light so far. I'm a noob at all of this so I'm just keeping an eye on everything.

@Lula_Mae I'm hoping to find some cheap frags to start with. There's a local LFS here but they are $$$ <_<

UPDATE:

Just got back from being away for 3 days. Before I left I did a water change and made sure it all looked good.

Came back today to find a dead hermit crab (it was torn to pieces; see pic below). Also noticed some coraline growth on the rocks? Could also be an algae/diatom bloom right; I say so because of some brown spots on the sandbed. I also noticed that the hammer coral has two mouths. I did a water change and blew the sand/rocks with a turkey baster. Also added the InTank basket #1 and the Jebaos SW2 pump. I love the pump; the clownfish seem to really like swimming against/through the currents. If anybody has any go-to settings for their pumps on a tank this size, let me know. I currently have it on W2 at the lowest speed with medium-ish pumps.

Hermit crab probably molted. 2 mouths means the hammer is growing/splitting

really? Cause his shell remains in the same spot; not moving. When I took out the pieces of what was left over of the hermit it felt fleshy. hmm
