JDSquared
I picked out my first corals. Brought my teenage son with me to keep him involved with the tank and he picked this one out. Because it looks like a nuclear reactor leaking he says. It was on the acan rack at the store but the guy couldn't remember what it was called. Trying to match it online in guessing it's a favite. But I don't know the difference between a favia or favite either. Closet I see from pictures is a moon coral. But when you look that up a wide variety of pictures show up. I appreciate the help. Still dunno what I have. lol They have wicked long feeders and sweepers so be careful placing it near anything. I would isolate it for a few days and observe in the evening to see how long those suckers come out. 2 Quote Link to comment

I expect they come out at night. I've been trying to watch for them. 1 hour ago, thespinningsadhu said: It says moon favite! Yeah I wrote that on my tank lol. Hoping to confirm that's what it is. 1 Quote Link to comment
Clown79
Favite and favia come from the family faviidae. They are pretty similar. the raised areas which polyps are, are the corallite walls. With favites they are shared and with the favia they aren't shared. the care for either is the same. they only extend at night to feed Quote Link to comment

Only the care. I have yet to see it extend. I've been trying to pay attention at night Quote Link to comment
