Hey guys, i`ve been running my smaller 20 gallon quite happily for some years now

and my cousin just gave me a nice Redsea c-130 tank with power compact lighting.

its a great size in my opinion and looks fantastic, Only thing is that it has these power

compact lights. I suppose i can run those but is it possible to upgrade it with LEDs or

T5s? I`ve got a T5 fixture over my little 20 gallon but i`m unsure how i should approach this.

Its a really pretty tank and i`d love to run this but preferably upgraded.

Anyone have any experience upgrading redseas? i`ll try getting some pictures.

Nice tank! Upgrading to LEDs will be quite simple in that tank if you are handy with a little DIY. Dave sells retro kits that are 99% ready to go. Honestly you could even ship him the lid and he could get you set up with the DIY otherwise.

Now if your more of the tinker type then you could get a heatsink, driver and other parts and rip out the PC.

Cool!

Whos this Dave?  How much would some respectable LEDs for this system run me?

can you recommend a brand a model for the LEDs?  That would be very useful.

I am a tinkerer myself so i should be able to do it myself.

I once upgraded my 14 gallon biocube with LEDs and it was great, although they burned out eventually.

@DaveFason is the guy behind Nanobox LED lights. http://nanoboxreef.com

Burned out LEDs sounds like you were over driving them, though evil or ben would be the guys to talk to about DIY.

I would look at getting star pucks of CREE LEDs

Oops didn't tag them right, @evilc66 @jedimasterben

Actually i suspect the Cause of the Biocube burn out was probably humidity.

i hear trapped humidity will wreck havoc on LEDs and so you need some way

ventilate, preferably with a strong fan.

That makes since. I excited to see where this goes! GL hopefully the DIY LED guys can help you out more, I have done one LED light but it ended up being too rough looking for my taste and budget at the time. Lol
