Ahh, ok.

I'm shopping around for dry rock now, that's why I asked.

Thx!!

NP

Figured I could do my "part" and not take rock from the ocean lol.  the Aquamaxx eco rock is mined from inland quarries where there used to be a reef many many years ago.

It is impossible to find uPVC pipe.

So I had an idea! The inside of the uPVC is 38mm, or 1.496 inches. Found some flexible tubing with an OD of 1.500".  Perfectly snug!

Just the thing I needed to extend the drain's exit so that it would not be above the sump's water level.

Well after a week of soaking the base rocks in RODI water, I dont know what the phosphate levels are because my test kit hasn't arrived. Lol.

It didn't have any odor that I could smell. My guess is that because the rock came from an inland quarry that any organics have been broken down over thousands if not millions of years.

Performed a 100% water change with more RODI. I will let it soak for another week and test when my kit arrives.

Just the right amount of control for the lights and pumps.

Looks so sleek and bright!  I love it.    I also appreciate your cord management. :D

I have been keeping reef tanks for 13 years now. But I have never tried to cycle a tank with only dry rock and "live" sand. Trying to do it with Dr Tims ammonia chloride drops and bacteria in a bottle (biospira).

Before doing anything, I tested for ammonia and nitrate. Both were 0ppm.

I followed the directions to bring the ammonia to 2ppm and tested, 2ppm. I waited a day and added the bacteria. 2 days later I tested the ammonia, 0ppm. Tested nitrates, 40ppm.

What do I do now?? Water change to lower the nitrate and then start slowly adding fish? Or do I add more ammonia chloride and wait for it to zero again?

I would add more NH4Cl, I would repeat the cycle you did 3-4 times, always waiting for ammonia to get to 0 before adding more.
