mitten_reef
Just an update on the monti island. clockwise from left: tri-color palawanensis, @Cultivated Reef's leng si cap, tequila sunrise, sunset monti (bad color right now, bright green polyps underneath tequila sunrise), and German blue digi. (the top most is BoP, not Monti). 5 Quote Link to comment

The red one - M. Palawanensis Leng sy - M. Capricornis Tequila Sunrise - M. Aquitiberculata German Blue digi - M. Digitata Sunset Monti - M. something, haha I haven't seen/found species reference for this fairly common and well-known Monti. And so far not many of mine had run into each other yet. I've seen the red one beat the Leng sy, I had to break off about 1-2" piece to trim it back from the Leng Sy a month or so ago. The red one also practically just went around and over the blue digi without even a hint of a fight from the digi. Quote Link to comment

John L
My rainbow monti frag growing out. 6 months ago, I had it next to some blue and red mushrooms, they nuked it gd. I honestly thought it had died, it turn completely cream/white colour and retracted in, i put it on my frag rack. It was still growing just but stayed white for a gd 4 months. Only now it’s getting colour back. Needless to say I have taken out most of my Mushrooms now, just 3 stragglers jammed in crevices. 2 Quote Link to comment

mitten_reef
some updates on leng sy cap from @Cultivated Reef a little less than one year ago, same spot on same rock, the LED array is a fairly good scale for growth. @teenyreef, you've got some nice mix of monti's in your 40, let's see 'em here . Asureef
I redo my Monti rock in my Red Sea tank. I ripped all the Monti cap/digi and glued them back. It’s grown in some since this pic is a few months old. 6 1 Quote Link to comment
John L
My lakers growing well. im keeping the red cap next to it on my small frag rack hoping it will attach to the tank wall, so the colours mix together. What do you think of placement guys?? 3 Quote Link to comment

Thanks for mentioning me, I wasn't following this thread. There are some amazing montis here Here's my little monticap island in the 40g. Since taking this pic I started trimming back the Idaho Grape to allow some of the others to get a little more light. These are at the bottom of the tank but montis are very tolerant of a wide range of lighting intensity. There's unnamed red and green, some kind of orange starburst, seasons greetings, and reef raft tropic thunder (at the very top of the picture). Does anyone know the ID of the green with blue polyps one on the lower right? 5 1 Quote Link to comment

Also has an interesting skeleton that grows up almost like a stalagmite. check out my tequila sunrise above (aka Sunrise Aequiterberculata); cool/funky growth forms for sure. 7 hours ago, teenyreef said: Does anyone know the ID of the green with blue polyps one on the lower right? flower petal cap? Maybe! The green on mine seems different, but the blue polyps aren't very bright either, so maybe it's just a difference in light. Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
Shamelessly bringing this thread back to life. Here are a couple of updates on my prized monti's. From the first post, you'll see this one used to be flat reddish orange thru and thru - it continues to morph and show some new colors, I really can't complain. I had to trim off a salad-plate size piece and took to LFS roughly a month ago. CR Leng sy Cap - pic is a bit too blue. The purple rim isn't as intense as it used to be - as it was under my backup lights for a long while - can't wait to see how it'll change as my nanobox is back and better than ever. 3 Quote Link to comment
