lkoechle
Since you are going the mandarin route. read this: It works. I modified it slightly, but I was able to train all 4 of mine. I used a modified version of the shot glass method. I started with a baby food jar and glued airline tubing in. I would fill a syringe with food and squirt it down the tube. What I eventually did was build a feeding box. I built a cube out of plexi glass. Used a hole saw to cut a hole for the mandarin to enter and drilled a small hole for airline tubing. Same concept. For you, it will probably be easier since they are not competing for food. I had 10 other fish in this tank including 3 wrasses. But it made it easier to get uneaten food out because I could pull the entire box out. So, I definitely suggest a box from that perspective. For food, I started with live blackworms and started introducing other foods with that mix. This is how I had to feed/train the green mandarins. The target mandarins more readily took to sweetfish roe soaked in SELCON Boost in their little feeding station and eventually they also started eating very small mysis. IME, I think they need to be fed as many times a day as you can. Probably 3+. but everyone has their own experiences. 2 Quote Link to comment

Did you have an ammonia spike at any point? If you had an ammonia spike and it went away, then you're done. Quote Link to comment

I wasn't testing it everyday... closest good LFS is a 2 hour round trip. It did test at .5 then about a week later it was 0 Quote Link to comment

It shouldn't, but that more depends on you than anything else. (how often you feed, how messy you feed, water changes, etc) I just like to be aware and prepared. 1 Quote Link to comment
