Waterflow question

Hi Reefers,

I am setting up a Zen 23g, and I am going with the sump option.  My plan was to drill three holes in the tank, 2 for a herbie and one for the return line.  My question I guess is will the return from the sump be enough waterflow for the tank, or do I need to add a powerhead or two?

Let me know,

You will definitely need powerheads to create more turbulent flow. The return line will add some flow, but powerheads will make it so you can adjust to remove deadspots within the tank. The amount of flow depends on the corals you want to keep. Softies can be fine with 15x. SPS need more like 50x but can thrive over 100x. Many different opinions on this though and not any definite articles that I could find for exact figures.

It will depend on the power of your return pump.  You could get sufficient flow through the sump with a strong pump if you wanted to (I do it), but it's easier to adjust with powerheads.  If you don't mind the look of powerheads in your display, then that's probably the way to go.
