Halo_003
You and I are in the race to fill the Nuvo 30s still I see. Not sure if you saw my update but my new target fill date is early April or so due to an upcoming move cross country. Your stand looks awesome with the white interior, and the Ruby sump looks fantastic. 1 Quote Link to comment

I’m shooting for the end of March, but at this point that means nothing really. If it’s a race, you won already. Good luck with the move and congrats on the new job (I think I commented on your post, or I meant to anyway)! 1 Quote Link to comment
samnaz
I did it. I finally drilled the tank. After putting it off for months, I'm so glad to have it over and done with. Everyone says it ends up being way easier than they thought it would be, but I have to disagree. That may have something to do with the fact that this was my first time ever using a drill. I should have practiced on a different tank first to get the hang of it. After drilling two holes I've got it down. Only one more hole to go... as soon as I figure out where the return should go. The first hole was stressful, nerve wracking, and scary. I used a drill guide instead of the template. The drill guide wouldn't stay in place, it was jumping/spinning around the entire time, causing the putty dam to leak. I kept having to put the putty back in place and refill the dam with water. It took forever to finish. Much longer than expected (about 15-20 mins per hole). I was so careful not to give it too much pressure, maybe I wasn't giving enough? Who knows... Perhaps it took forever because of the diamond coated hole saw I got on amazon for $4, the lowest possible quality drill bit you can get. Before hole #1 Hole #1 complete: For the second hole, I ditched the awful drill guide and used the included template instead. It was 10x easier. Piece of cake. Before hole #2 And here's the finished product with overflow box installed: It looks *so* good in person. These pics are crap. Now that I have that out of the way, I can actually start putting this tank together instead of just thinking about it. 1 2 Quote Link to comment

samnaz
Let's see... where were we.... PLUMBING! Tried to make it work with rigid PVC but I somehow totally blanked on the center brace of the stand being directly below the overflow. So I got myself some flexible PVC pipe and 45 degree elbow and went to work. Here is a very rough plan for the drain plumbing. 1 Quote Link to comment
pal
Dang, everytime I look at this thread it makes me daydream about an upgrade to my tank to something similar. Two hearted ale is delicious, and it also makes me day dream about camping in the upper peninsula. 1 Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
I like it, looks good! Just wondering, why didn't you stick with the flexible pipe? 1 Quote Link to comment

mitten_reef
how's the tank coming along? I've been searching for this tank (IM Nuvo Black 30L) on black friday/cyber monday sales, but not having any luck. If you ever got bored of the tank, you know who to send PM to 😉 1 Quote Link to comment
samnaz
Hey! Even though this thread died a long time ago, the new setup is still very much alive and in the works. I’ve made a lot of changes, added equipment, got into DIYing everything once I realized how fun it is. All the details and photos etc can be found on the thread here - https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/long-and-shallow-rimless-upgrade-in-progress.335027/page-6 (hopefully it’s not against the rules to link another forum) On 7/24/2018 at 11:40 AM, micoastreefing said: what the heck happened to this build? You wouldn't be asking if you knew how much money it would take for me to give it up. It's special. It'll be a few years still before I get sick of it 😉 On 9/23/2018 at 9:55 PM, Polarcollision said: Hey! Are you still out there? Sent ya a PM 🙂 Quote Link to comment
