samnaz
Is this a sac filled with feather duster spawn? Here's another more recent photo of the new Duncan head, tentacles are even starting to glow under the light! Some cool-looking algae that has sprouted up amongst the live rock. 1 Quote Link to comment

Nixperience
What a dumb snail. Featuring some GHA there too. Quote Link to comment

I've seen those gel-like sacs coming out of my featherduster tube too, but I honestly don't know what they are. Your Duncan is doing so well, that's great!! I like that Macro as well. Does the shorter stubby green macro at the base of the taller Macro feel kinda stiff and scruffy? If so, it's a good one and not GHA. It looks more like the good one in this pic. 4 hours ago, samnaz said: Guys, DO I HAVE AIPTASIA? Yup, that's aiptasia, you need to kill it ASAP. It does look as though you may have GHA, although it's harder to tell for sure in these pics, and I don't want you to mix it up with what looked like the good non-GhA stuff above. If it feels soft, it's GHA. 2 Quote Link to comment
samnaz
Got a dslr to use for work. Brought it home to test out on my tank and let me just say wow. Not only does it at least accurately depict what my tank and corals look like in real life, it almost makes them look better! Now I just have to figure out the easiest quickest way to resize some photos and share them with you all Here's a sneak peak. On second thought that still looks TERRIBLE. I have a lot of learning to do. Bare with me guys. Here's a neat photo of it under a $7 microscope for my phone camera... 2 Quote Link to comment

samnaz
Look at that new little duncan head I'm such a proud mom. Finally got the Cyphastrea to spread onto the tank wall, just in time for me to transfer to a new tank. Contemplating just having two tanks.... Maybe I'm crazy. 3 Quote Link to comment

I'd say the stiff, scruffy algae should be ok. It'll make a good little habitat for beneficial microfauna. Baby Duncan is cute!!! I thought I was only gonna have two tanks too, but then I stuck some stuff in my 4g pico to do an experiment. It doesn't really count if the only equipment it has is a pump, right?? samnaz
Got myself the AQUAMAXX HOB-1 SKIMMER. (just need an RO/DI system and the new tank is ready for setup) Meanwhile, I want to switch from using the AC110 to using the Aquamaxx HOB instead, any precautions I should be taking? Should I slowly discard the filtration media (purigen and chemipure) or can I just ditch it all and setup the skimmer? On 5/14/2017 at 10:40 AM, Weetabix7 said: So much cool stuff!! samnaz
Meanwhile here are some of the few photos that turned out ok enough after experimenting with the new T6. Boring ol' Mushroom, this photo actually makes it look more impressive than it does in real life. (one of my first corals) Cool sponge-like-thing? Hard to photograph. Sexy shrimp, big ol' feather star in the near distance. "Gator Sparkler" Pavona - are these polyps coming out on one side, or something else? 2 Quote Link to comment
samnaz
I'm afraid it's time to say goodbye to my Torch. Perhaps it's just really, really pissed I setup the new skimmer earlier today AND removed the old AC110 for a few hours, as I am setting up an AC70 to take it's place. Also cleaned parts of the tank glass that haven't been cleaned in months. Too much change for one day, maybe? Everything else in the tank is happy as usual, so I'm not going to worry too much about why the Torch is unhappy/dying/both. Quote Link to comment
Nixperience
That looks bad. Maybe it will come back. Quote Link to comment
samnaz
For my 30L, I bought and assembled a Petco Aquatic Fundamentals tank stand. I have a few complaints... It's 28 inches tall. That's so freaking short. Isn't it? I'll be crouching over constantly to get a head on view. And with a shallow 12" tank, this setup seems more fitting for toddler-sized people. It's shortness would make maintenance much easier though, but who really cares. Good and easy viewing matters more. It's ugly (Looks like it was painted with chalky-black paint mixed w/ sand). The top and bottom pieces are each two halves, both connected at the center. How is this thing supposed to stay level on carpet which happens to be on top of verrryyy un-level floors. Not happening. Also, the doors are ridiculously tiny. To see inside at all you gotta stick your head in. If I wanted to actually access anything inside, nope, cause ya can't squeeze an arm AND head through the tiny door. Quote Link to comment
Nixperience
That blows. The new aluminum IM stands are out, but it's $350. Quote Link to comment

samnaz
Another baby Duncan! It's sprouting heads left and right all of the sudden. Cant believe how fast they're growing. Proud mom moment. 3 Quote Link to comment
markalot
Howdy, I really liked the live rock you started with, lots of goodies. It does look like you have some aptasia but I would not sweat it too much. Take the torch out and sniff ... you'll know if you should toss it. Those 5 dollar zoas you got way back in the thread where on a star plug from ReefGen, did they make it? Duncans are awesome, there was someone on another forum who managed to get 3 different color morphs. I have the typical greenish ones and some purple ones, this reefer managed to find one that was more rose and another that was yellowish. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lula_Mae
Did the torch manage to pull through? I've heard some LPS can regrow even from skeleton, not sure if that is true for torches or not though. Yay for new duncan heads! Quote Link to comment
samnaz
I officially have everything I need to setup up the 30L, after six months of non-stop reading, planning, being too indecisive, more reading, and waving goodbye to my entire life savings.… I have decided on the very last piece of the upgrade-planning-purchasing puzzle! (saved the most expensive and boring for last) — Spectrapure MaxCap RO/DI 90gpd 2:1 w/ Manual Flush. Possibly overkill, and/or not even necessary at all… But I went ahead and impulsively bid on it for too much, too soon. Hopefully it turns out to be a successful investment. I'm a huge fan of your tank as you know. Yep my very first frag (the zoas) is still going strong. 1 Quote Link to comment

It used to extend as fully as possible and was huge, it was like that for a few months. I don't know why it's suddenly shrunk and hates life... Quote Link to comment
yungKitten
I think you'll be very happy with the RO/DI unit. 1 Quote Link to comment
markalot
I have that RODI without the flush. I added a second membrane to increase the GPD but then I have 150+ gallons so I needed something a bit faster. Great unit IMO. 1 Quote Link to comment
samnaz
I found my sexy shrimp on top of my Torch today, twice. I don't know if he was just picking at it for fun or has developed a taste for it's flesh. I've always been a firm believer that sexies won't eat corals if you keep them well fed - that's always been my experience and I had them for a long time. I moved the Torch up on to a single frag rack. Hopefully the shrimp will leave it alone and it'll be happier there. Only time will tell. Right now it's so pissed, I can barely see any flesh poking out of the skeleton. Quote Link to comment
