Weird sponge like growth under acan

I was feeding some reef chili tonight while the lights are off and I noticed a weird growth under one of my acan colonies. It is dull white and is very porous. I touched it with a pair of forceps and it was soft. It seems to be some sort of sponge? This is the first time I have seen anything like this in my tank.
