Love that video in the beginning and your choice of corals.

Tank is looking really nice now, will be amazing when those beautiful corals really start growing in and covering the 'scape.

Dave, what are your thoughts about this tank.

I'm thinking about getting one but am worried about the cramped stand space.

I can not say better things about these series of tanks. The only gripe is the ATO is basically worthless. You need a ATO for your ATO. I do not use it. The setup is extremely simple, great looks and the stand is sturdy. If they started a corner overflow it would be the ultimate.

just dooooo it.  but aren't you still in school?

Thanks! I love the acans and micros next to them. Pink centers. @Legendary Corals

Those are some stunning rainbow trout. My biggest is 32". Caught it on my first cast. We didn't catch a single thing the rest of the day and I've never come close to a trout that big again. I've caught some MONSTER Northern Pike and salmon but not trout. I was down in Ft Lauderdale for Thanksgiving and was slaying the perch in the canals using bread haha

Thanks! That was my largest ~ 22". The big one pictured is much larger. I am heading back down to Charleston soon for more reds and really want to hit pike on the fly.

Thank you! I am excited too. If everything goes as "planned" I think I will be very happy.

Enjoyed shooting some videos and stills this weekend. The enjoyment I get from this tank is far more than any other tank I have owned. The colors are ~90% accurate that you see in person. This is just before it switches to night, my personal favorite.

Growth has been really great in the tank. I have been dosing a bit more Reef Roids and see a huge difference. The NYOS skimmer has been putting in overtime as well.

Is the ATO poop because of the small ATO size, or is the mechanical ATO useless.

To small. It is tiny. I would say ~ 2-3 days MAX that it will last.

Received a shipment delay on parts I needed. Paint was curing. Figure why not take a half day and fish? :D The rest of the week is going to be a grinder with orders and house renovations.

I am VERY lucky to have wild trout creeks 1-1.5 hours away.

They come pre-cooked now huh? ;)

Jealous of your fishing trips! It's been awhile since I've gone trout fishing. Last one I caught was on our backpacking trip in Banff a couple years ago...we were so far in the backcountry there I don't think the fish had ever seen a lure before.

The tank is looking great! Where is your big maxima man?!

Oh and congrats on that article! Really cool to see you being recognized by the community.

cool stuff!  i ended up getting a close up kit for my 18-105mm.  I can use the extra reach with my bigger tank =P.

Awesome. Have fun with it an experiment. Did you do the kit or 10x?

Ha! No kidding. They were nuclear orange. I am in a great spot to get away for a half day. No lures here just flies I tie. I will post some photos of these as well.

The clam tied before the transfer. No idea why, how or what happened. It sucks because I had it for ~ 6 years.

Congrats on the magazine feature! I love all your new photos, what lens is that under the Voigtlander cap that you adapt?

Thanks!

Close up kit for macro stuff. The Voit is a 75mm 1.8 and the lens on the camera is a 30mm 1.4. I also have a Zeiss 16-70 zoom that is amazing for everyday.

Here's one the last trout I caught in Banff. Not a terrible place to fish  but not exactly a half day away. You're motivating me to go on a hunt around here for some good spots.

Is the Voigtlander a macro lens itself, or do you put further adaptors on it? I've been looking for a good vintage lens to adapt to my X-T2 for macro. Don't tell me you found it at a thrift store or something? They're so scarce in vintage shops or $LOL$ second hand now that they have a use again with mirrorless cameras.

It is a normal 75. It has in my opinion one of the best bokeh you can get. I bought it from my friend for ~$575. I use the Hoya close up for macro with it. I believe it gives the stills for character.

The Voiglander are incredible. The 35 1.4, 75 1.8, 35 1.2, etc.

Our kitchen renovation is going well. Getting to home stretch. For the meantime I tied some flies for a upcoming fishing trip, cleaned the fish room, worked on a few NanoBox Orders and snapped a few macros. True FTS will be posted this week.

This short clip that is very zen like.

I landed my first wild brown this Sunday along with a few more brookies. To top it off I went fishing with a well known rod builder. It is always fun to talk about how different and the same our businesses are. I may have a new rod in my future. :)

This tank has been an absolute pleasure. While I do have a little bit of a bacteria issue going on it will phase out. The tank is not perfect but allows me to do minimal care with great results. The amount of questions I receive about the tank is blowing my mind. So here are many answers.

Light Schedule - I do not touch it. It has not changed from the above. I believe the amount of fiddling and adjustments people make only stress things out. Watch the corals!

Feeding Schedule - A ton

  • Two-Three times a day of PE Mysis dry food
  • Teaspoon of Polyp Lab Reef Roids
  • Squirt of Polyp Lab Colors
  • 2-3 times a week of LRS frozen
  • Polyp Booster daily until recently - I ran out!

Cleaning : I should clean daily but normally every three days. As you can see in the new FTS, it is not perfect.

  • Glass - Every 3 days.
  • Skimmer - Once a week
  • Carbon - One a month
  • Turkey baster - daily in sump and display

Light Height : As of now I am using two old quad bodies to hold the new style Quad up. I am going to hang it however as you can see, it is not. ;)

  • ~5" away from water

PAR : These are ruff. I will get a detailed map this weekend. These are taken with the pumps off.

  • 300-375 on the top
  • 200 mid tank
  • 80-110 on the bottom

Flow : I like to blast my corals.

  • MP40 - 60% Reef Crest
  • MP10 - 100% Reef Crest
  • Sump Pump - Nuvo16 pump

A few things that I also believe that contribute to the corals adjusting quicker, growing quicker and the tank just being healthy are.

  • Keeping my hands out of the tank. My hands MAY touch the water once a month.
  • Keeping the lighting schedule consistent
  • Large fish population & feeding schedule
  • Tons of flow

Now for the pictures. As you can see things are growing. I had a few corals sting each other but other than that it is smooth sailing.

Pink Chalice : This coral is incredible in person

Love the backsplash!

 Looks great Dave. ?

Thanks. Hoping to tie a few loose ends this weekend to be finished. The backsplash worked out really well being that they are ceramic tile. A handmade look to match the look of the house ( built in the 50's ).

The tank is looking great Dave! LOL @ using the old quad carcasses as your light mount! I think your favorite acans are mine too.

The kitchen remodel looks great too, the counters and backsplash are a classy combo. It must feel so much more open with those upper cabinets removed. Are the doors being refinished or replaced?
