saixiong
I currently have a fluval spec v with all of the standard filtration that came with the tank. My goal for this tank is to house 1 fish, a cuc, and a few soft and lps corals. Would i need to upgrade it or not? Link to comment
burtbollinger
Personally, i'd run a chemi pure elite, a bit of Poly Filter, and maybe a sphere or two of Marinepure vs what you have pictured...I'd ditch everything in the photo. Link to comment
dandelion
I'd use the carbon. The biofilter thing I've had good success using them in my QT. Link to comment
Clown79
I'd make your own media basket out of eggcrate or acrylic. Use a good carbon like matrix, kent etc. Use filter floss. If need be phosphate removers or purigen can be added if needed. Link to comment
saixiong
so what else should go in the basket besides carbon? Link to comment

3s1k
What does Chemi-Pure elite actually do? Personally, i'd run a chemi pure elite, a bit of Poly Filter, and maybe a sphere or two of Marinepure vs what you have pictured...I'd ditch everything in the photo. Link to comment

3s1k
its just carbon, gfo, and some sort of resin. easy to use for a beginner Oh ok thanks, I already use BRS carbon in my tank so I guess there's no need to add this as well. Link to comment
Clown79
No. Chemipure is no different than using your own carbon and mixing some gfo with it except you have complete control over quantity you use and how often to change it. Its also cheaper. I used chemipure- didn't last the 4 mnths it claimed, saw no benefit so i went back to media bags and my own choice of products...same results. Link to comment
FiveGallonSea
Hey man I have the Spec V and let me make this very easy for you. Get rid of all the stock filtration and light. For the filtration- get an In Tank media basket http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Fluval-Spec-and-Evo-Media-Basket-FLSMR.htm Buy a bulk container of Purigen and add accordingly into media bags- https://www.amazon.com/Seachem-67101630-Purigen-500ml/dp/B0006JLVUI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1486822104&sr=8-2&keywords=purigen Finally can't forget floss- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00176AZ4C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And as for the Chemipure Elite that's up to you. If you're going to do strict weekly water changes ditch it. Thank me later. Link to comment
