is there such thing as natural gold tip BTA? Local big als has them for $130 CAD and really only the tip that looks yellow/gold. The rest of the body look bleached. The store confirmed that this is their natural color. Is this rare and worth the money?

worth the money isnt issue as much is it worth it to add a BTA to a newer tank? I'd say no way.

I notice you've asked a few times now if corals are rare, etc...it really doesnt matter.

I know :P I am so weak. I need to stop going to fish stores and this forum. Lol

I only ask if one is a rare item or not if it is listed much higher than the other of the same kind since I am not familiar whether an item is a rare item or not. Otherwise, I don't ask and I don't care. My LPS are all just regular ones. Sometime I stumble onto an item that I really like but the price is much higher hence the question. :)

im just sensitive to this rare stuff going on lately...in fact, my goal with the new tank is TOTM-level with only 'regular' corals. Zero named/designer anything.

Looks like a bleached 'nem. I wouldn't call that the natural colors. It'll eventually darken up and probably look like any of the others around (kind of like your RBTA in the BG).

You overpaid. Plain and simple you should've listened to Burtbollinger too. He knows what's good! Hopefully you can keep it alive long enough for your tank to properly level out. I had a similar green bta that got shredded by my vortec mp20 back I the day. Ripped it right in half. One half died immediately the other survived. Looked just like your new one for 9mo till it regained it's natural pigment. If your tank decides to do anything funny like have a nitrite or ammonia spike you could easily loose that weakened anemone. I hate to be the bearer of bad new but I'm just kidding. I live for it. Should've stuck to that expert advise that good people still find time to offer up. I'm done here though. I'll be back on next week most likely. Maybe I'll get an update then. You might get lucky. Bta's are extremely hard to kill imo.

Jeeze, people are getting real on here. I hope your new nem goes good for you. And listen up all y'all, it's not like he paid real money for it. It's canadien money, 130 CAD is the monetary equivalent to a bag of skittles and a video cassette porno. I mean, I'm not an economist, but hell...give the canuck a break, eh. We better hope they don't put up a wall and make us pay for it or we will have no where to go when the second holocaust happens!

For real though, the tank is looking good, buddy!

He is right but it is just me that weak and couldn't resist temptation.

Also I ended paying $60 tax included. I negotiated it down from $130 plus tax.

It is eating well now.

I also agree that nem is bleached. I've only ever seen 2 in person that were yellow or gold and the color was pretty solid throughout. Give it some time. Proper water quality food an light will bring out its color.....maybe. Or it'll just shrivel up and die.

you have to do a mental trick where you get excited by the rush and thrill of walking out of a LFS with nothing. Like you escaped unscathed.

Train yourself to be upset when you do give in and buy something.

your tank does look good, btw.

time to focus in on keeping it rock solid steady.

also, here's a preemptive "don't buy a clam or any SPS" warning. Or a shrimp.

lol, you just need to visualize your tank at home as a shining, clear, clean and healthy container that should not be fouled by any of the nasty, probably bug-ridden crap that the dirty LFS is selling.

you don't wanna taint your waters unless its for a damn good reason.

I love the nerve of this store saying that this isn't a bleached anemone, btw. Pretty damn gutsy move.

Spoke to the manager already about it hence I got it for $60 tax included instead of paying $130 plus tax. He apologized to me and said that his employees should not sell it as regular healthy nem. I agreed to take $60 chance since when it is back to 100% healthy and not bleached this nem will easily worth 3x than what I paid.

You really can't count on anything you put in your tank as an investment. Unless of course your in the retail game. Buy what you can keep and support. Don't get caught up on some of the nonsense associated with this hobby. That nem even healthy and full of color didn't cost him $60. Even healthy you really have no clue what it is. Round here nice rainbow and fancy colored BTA's go for $40-80 for that size. I don't know what that equates to in your fancy plastic Canadian money but pretty sure you got hosed...is hosed still a thing in Canada? anyway if you know what your doing and what to look for sometimes the LFS are happy to get some stuff out of their inventory and you can get it below cost.

With all that being said the first thing I put into my tank was a GBTA. 10 years later it is still alive and has made countless babies. It's really no longer green and the nice bubble tips rarely have bubble tips anymore. It has split at least 18 times now I still have 4 and have given away a few, flushed some down the terlet or sold them for $20. So yes it is possible to keep a BTA in a somewhat new tank.

I wish you luck in my experience bta's are bulletproof. Just keep in mind they get quite large.....like the size of a volley ball over time. The two in my 34 gallon can be 10 inches in diameter each. The two in my 20 gallon are in the 6 inch range. I have no idea what that equates to in Canadian metric bullshit.

Big Al's is notorious for selling over priced corals that aren't special. They also often sell unhealthy specimens at full price.

As for cdn money not being worth anything, it is to us. not only do we pay a lot for our products but add 13% tax to everything. Its not fun getting burned by a store.

Glad you called the mgr and got it worked out!

LOL seriously......who cares about what material your money is made from and metric or non-metric units. I actually prefer plastic money as I can't stand how stinky USD paper bills can get after changing hand so many times.

can we PLEASE not get political on here? I come here for an escape....plus, your anemone tank that you inadvertently made needs your attention.

Sorry can't help it after all the dis about Canadian from the other American lol

Its hard to say what its real colors are, I'm actually curious to tag along and see what it looks like when it regains its color. Its certainly bleached from the looks of it.

My LFS Tricked me once, I bought this Beautiful White (Almost clear) Anemone with Blue tips. And it glowed green under blue light! I loved it! When I googled it online quick, nothing came up. (That should have been my first red flag ) Brought it home to my healthy tank, Accidentally nursed the beast back to health, Turns out its a White/Brown color with Purple Tips, Condy Anemone! AKA Fish Eater... DAMMIT!

Luckily, I only paid $15 for him, and no losses yet with fish. I actually like him so it worked out. Glad I saved him I guess. Still glows under blue lights B)

Just an FYI, True Gold Anemones sell for a Fortune! Anything Gold, or Orange under blue light really. Mushrooms, anemones, coral, etc..

Like this $900 Yellow Bubble Tip Anemone.

Welcome to the hobby! It truly is a Blast!
