Slayer33
Hi all, I'm looking into upgrading the stock 132gph pump in the Fluval Sea Evo 13.5 that I have... currently I have the stock pump running and a hydor 425gph pump in my tank... I have decent flow with the hydor, but I find the stock pump to be on the weak side... I was hoping to up the gph closer to 180-200gph.. I read in another forum that a Lifegard 800 is a viable option... I was wondering if anyone else had any other recommendations? The Lifegard 800 states 200gph.. is this going to be too much flow with my Hydor 425? I want to have good flow around my entire tank as I plan to eventually add more corals and an anemone. Here's an image of my tank Quote Link to comment
Clown79
200gph isn't drastic. You'd have to measure the pump size but eheim's have good pumps, sicce, and even maxijets. Unfortunately the lighting on that tank probably isn't enough for anemones Quote Link to comment
MrJoel
Did you end up swapping out the pump? I am trying to find good model that will fit in the return chamber on my Evo 13.5. Quote Link to comment
IVFluid
I put a lifeguard 800 in mine and it can be really loud. Going to look for another pump with about the same size and output today. Other than the noise it works well. You will need to get new line though as the one it comes with does not allow the lifeguard to sit on the bottom of the chamber. Quote Link to comment
clownin around
I used a cobalt mj 1200 then switched to a sicce 1.5, either should do what you are looking for with the sicce being nearly dead silent in my experience. I have a similar rockscape and actually had to tone the sicce down. I don't use a powerhead either, just had to play around with the return nozzles and strategically place frags. ninjamyst
I am running mj 1200 and it can't be beat for the price. the sicce 1.5 is double the price of mj 1200... Quote Link to comment

Did you suspend the mj or set it on bottom glass? I had too much vibration noise from just the pump on glass even after twos months of break in time. After that I insulated it with some silicone matting, it helped somewhat but the reason I shelled out for the sicce is because it comes with rubber feet and was quieter overall. Got me rethinking my reefing career choices rn ninjamyst Quote Link to comment
ninjamyst
I cut the tubing a little shorter so the MJ 1200 is just hanging in mid air kind of. It does produce a little bit of noise from vibration but I have it in the corner of my dining room so it doesn't bother me much. Quote Link to comment
Cactus
I have purchased the sicce 1.5 as one recommended but can not see how you were able to fix it in the chamber..please let me know what you did Quote Link to comment
clownin around
push straight down, might have to use a little prodding to push it and angle it as you move it since part of the second chamber wall sticks out, but once on the bottom it should rest normally with suction feet contacting the bottom. IVFluid
So, I replaced the Lifegaurd 800 that I put in with the stock pump and added a Hydor Korelia with the wave maker set to 1 hour on and 1 hour off. I think that it does well and my scape allows me to keep my Acans and shrooms out of high flow areas. It seems like the frags like the varied flow, and it helps keep detritus from accumulating between the scape and the false wall (powerhead on the opposite of the return nozzles). In retrospect, I wish that I would have gone ahead and bought a reef keeper light controller to program the powerhead and connect an ATO or heater/thermometer instead of the wave maker. Can you guys post a picture of how you got the 1.5 pushed in the chamber? I seriously can't see how it fit without making it fit the wrong way. Thanks! @Cactus @clownin around Quote Link to comment

Got it 3 weeks ago, roughly 2-3 inches, it's now 4 inches. But I wouldn't put any other type of hosting anemone under that light. Quote Link to comment
