Sammaredsox
Someone said I should post in this thread for ideas. I bought a used 29 gallon Oceanic biocube that the prior owner "modded" badly. Now it has no lights. I was hoping for a suggestion for a good light for it. Was hoping for a light a little bigger than the current holes so I could cut it out and make it work. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! Link to comment
FLOPEZ83
I would honestly just ditched the lid if it's already all hacked up. You can get a different light and either hang it or mount it on the back. Just my 2 cents. Happy reefing Link to comment
ajmckay
You could get a hanging light and cut the hole a bit larger, or an 18" strip light.. But as mentioned just taking the lid off is a popular mod for these tanks. That would let you run a gooseneck light mount which opens you up to things like AI Prime, PAR38's, etc... You could still do a strip light though with mounting legs. Taking the lid off improves gas exchange and keeps the tank cooler in summer. Link to comment
Droy008
I vote ditch the hood. I like looking down in my tank almost as much as through it. Link to comment
Sammaredsox
Just looked at some without lids and I like it! Thx for the idea. Anyone like a specific brand of lights? Looking to just have fish and inverts with maybe a few anenomies. No plans for corals. Link to comment
Droy008
Anemones require serious light. Consider a Nanobox (duo), Kessil (a160/360), AI (prime) *probably the most cost effective* Link to comment
Sammaredsox
Will check those out. Thx Link to comment

Thank you in advance! If it has the plash guard as well you could use a retro kit. Add a small piece of acrylic to cover the holes. Or the Duo would be a great fit to go over the tank without the hood. -Dave Link to comment
