TheStar
Just bought this used RSM 130 about a month ago. I'm hoping to add some corals soon. I wanted to get used to the sump and how everything worked before buying anything. Had some algae growing but it seems to be better now with a rejuvenated clean up crew and a few water changes. The Stock lights were changed to TrueLumen pro white and blue led by the original owner. Don't think these are going to cut it. Planning on upgrading to NanoBox. They also added the aqueon proflex sump with an overflow box. I'm really happy with the sump so far but I did lose siphon a few times and I can't figure out why. I am getting these bubbles (Really hard to capture a good picture.) I am guessing this is the reason I lost siphon to the sump. It hasn't happened on over 10 days so I am hoping it worked itself out but these bubble are still making me worry. Chaeto is growing pretty good with the new LED from Amazon. This is the beginning of the month. And 5 days later. Also have this weird sponge thing growing. I can' seem to find any information on it. Not sure if I should be worried about it or not? Thanks for looking. Ill post some new pics and progress as I go along. Link to comment

TheStar
New FTS Shot and some additions to the tank/SUMP. Recently added NanoBox Retro LED with the BlueFish and it has been great. Recently Purchased a Coral Compulsion Par 38 35W and have it over the return area of the sump. I'm hoping this works out good for some coral frags. Also a new stubborn Duncan that hasn't opened up in a week. Link to comment
TheStar
New Pictures.. Feather duster seems to be splitting into two? My duncan won't open so I put him in the shade. Added a few more corals and found this oddball crab. [/url] Worlds funniest crab? I don't even know where this corkscrew thing came from but he was stuck with it for several days. Now I don't see it anymore. Also pulled this out from my tank but decided to return it after I looked at the identication thread. It looks like stomatella ( I hope)? Link to comment
TheStar
I have some questions about the RSM 130 with a sump. I just installed this SCA-301 Protein skimmer. That was a really tight fit into chamber 3 of the Aqueon Proflex Sump. Anyone have any tips on getting that thing running right? Also, I'm trying to figure out how to get the sump return to return directly into the Display Tank. It seems to make sense. The previous owner has it dumping into chamber 2 in the back. Anyone have any input on if/how I can do this? Link to comment

TheStar
Anyone else running this SCA-301 Protein skimmer? I can't seem to get it working consistently. The bubbles are too low and its not bringing anything up for skim-mate or I have the water level too high and the collection cup fills up with water. Link to comment
TheStar
I'm thinking its time for this refugium mud to go. Seems to be growing tons of algae and the chaeto is slowly dying off. Hard to get a decent picture but here goes... Link to comment

From your picture, it seems like you are running it in a chamber with too low of a water level. My SCA301 works best when it is running in 7.5 inches of water. Link to comment
TheStar
Thanks for the reply. I will check to make sure. I may have taken the picture right after a water change. A few more refugium mud pics. These are hard to get with the light bouncing back. Link to comment

TheStar
Is this acro totally dead? Another pic... Link to comment
TheStar
Chaeto growth has sure slowed down. I'm left with a tennis sized ball. Not sure if it's the mud/algae or if that's macro algae in there. I'm doing regular 5 gallon water changes. Any tests have been fine. Link to comment

Hirsh
If there aren't completely dead, they are beyond repair most likely. Link to comment
lkoechle
They look pretty dead. but we were able to grow (as an experiment) a rainbow monti frag from 2 polyps. so you can keep them to see if they come back if you want Link to comment

AT least I have SOME hope. I kind of figured they were dead. They seemed to do okay in the sump but something changed once I moved into the DT. Or they were just new and not doing good the whole time/slowly dying. Loved your tank lkoechle. I am following your thread. Link to comment

TheStar
Anyone know where I can get one of these? or what it is called? I want to try and attach it on the inside of the tank so I can have the sump return directly into the tank instead of chamber 2 in the back. Link to comment
TheStar
I want to return right into the display tank from here. I need the straight fixture from above instead of the right angle I have now. If I do this would the water be coming in too fast for the overflow? Or does it matter? Link to comment
