natalia_la_loca
Oh hey 😝 long time no see! So I still have two reefbowls! They’re more or less on autopilot bc I have a lot of other hobbies and stuff. But...still going! 7 8 Quote Link to comment

I had wondered if you retired them. yeah, I don’t really see myself retiring them unless I move or something. My interest in reefing varies, but maintenance is so easy that I can keep them going even if I’m not feeling all that enthusiastic about coral at a given time. That’s the beauty of vase/bowl/jar reefs! 3 Quote Link to comment
Kentech5
Incredible thread to read through. Ive been reading through it since Monday. Definitely seems like a fun extra project and since it’s a bowl it doesn’t count as Multi Tank Syndrome right? 1 Quote Link to comment

SeaFurn
I'm so happy to see the bowl is still as beautiful as ever. Don't tell anyone but I'm actually thinking about moving my recent 2.5 gal pico contest tank into my bowl because I miss it so much. Just gotta figure out how to reconfigure the scape first. 3 Quote Link to comment
natalia_la_loca
Your secret is safe with me 🤐 and I support the move to a bowl 1000% 1 Quote Link to comment
Wingy
Try giving a thin slice of blanched zucchini to the Opae. Mine love it. Because the Opae scrape to get their food the zuchini doesn't foul the water and is easy to remove. 1 Quote Link to comment
natalia_la_loca
@Wingy thanks, I’ll give that a try! here are a couple pics of the newer bowl today before the water change... 1 3 Quote Link to comment
Tempestas
Wow. Things are looking even more amazing. I love that the heads of the figures are still visible. What are your thoughts on the bowl as an art piece at this time? Has the direction changed at all? 2 Quote Link to comment
natalia_la_loca
@Tempestas I like that the heads are still visible too. it’s progressing pretty much as I imagined...two of the figures are almost completely covered in montipora and basically unrecognizable. They’ve been reclaimed by nature and the monti is now starting to cover a third figure. Is it nature, is it art, is it a little bit of both, I don’t know but I love it! Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
It's good to see you and the pico reef bowls @natalia_la_loca! Simply stunning! 😮 On 12/18/2019 at 8:03 AM, natalia_la_loca said: I don’t really see myself retiring them unless I move or something. That’s the beauty of vase/bowl/jar reefs! Amen! My pico reef jar is going strong with coral growth, despite an occasional month or two of neglect. What kind of cleanup crew do you have in them these days? I'm looking to add some more snails to my reef jar soon, curious what types you've had success with long term. 1 Quote Link to comment

They live for years and do a great job removing biofilm. Quote Link to comment
natalia_la_loca
Hey, checking in again for another update 🤓 My older reefbowl will be 5 years old next month! I was lazy about maintenance for a while but the bowls are pretty forgiving. the shrimp bowl is doing great too. 4 2 Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Wow 5 years, that's incredible @natalia_la_loca! I'm so happy to see your reef bowl is still running so well, it's stunning! What has your maintenance routine been like lately? 2 Quote Link to comment
natalia_la_loca
thanks 🙂 I’m still feeding once a week with a variety of different coral feeds, then doing a 90-100% water change 3-4 days later, during which i treat any nuisance algae with peroxide, trim corals, etc. it’s still pretty low maintenance. 1 Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
So great to see! Are you still using the PAR38 bulb? 2 Quote Link to comment
