DNR88
I like the 'bommie-style'. But for the right balance, I think you should move the smallest rock in the middle to the right. Put the small piece on the large rock and I think it'll look great. 😊 1 Quote Link to comment

DNR88
Just now, sango said: @DNR88 Is this what you have in mind? Nice, but I mean you put the stone on top of the big stone. It seems as if there's a hole where it fits nicely. 1 Quote Link to comment
sango
@DNR88 Aha, I see what you mean. I was originally going for a "Sanzon Iwagumi" look. But I'm open to new ideas. I'll play around with it and consider it. Thanks for the suggestions! 1 Quote Link to comment

Also harder to achieve in a reef tank. 1 Quote Link to comment

DNR88
Great to see the different variations. I see there's a snail involved as well! 😄 I think variation 3 looks best. You can twist the little rock a bit more, so it looks more 'integrated' with the large rock. Edit: Variation 4 is spot on! Now move the stones a little forward to the middle of the tank. 1 Quote Link to comment

DNR88
Stick to variation 7, I think it looks well balanced. Good luck with the further progress of the tank. 😉 1 Quote Link to comment

sango
Dinos are back. Persistent little monsters. This time I'm going to try the following: Increase temperature to 82 degrees F Dose 1mL, 2 times per day of Hydrogen Peroxide (per 10 gallons) Dose 5mL per day of MicroBacter 7 Dose 5mL per day of MicroBacter Clean Activated carbon UV sterilizer Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
It just takes time these days, more persistent strains, who knows. Cutting light intensity and photoperiod back 30%, keeping P04 @.05-.1 and N03 @10 for a month or so while basically stopping waterchanges seems to work fairly well. You can siphon the colonies of dino out through some high micron filter floss and add the water back into the tank, but I wouldn't change out water. Dino's right now seem to be very resilient to H202 ime and I can't really recommend it. Some folk have had success with adding phyto to a dosing routine, but since you can directly dose P04 it might not be necessary. 1 Quote Link to comment
sango
Modified procedure to include some input from @A.m.P: Increase temperature to 82 degrees F Dose 1mL, 2 times per day of Hydrogen Peroxide (per 10 gallons) Dose 5mL per day of MicroBacter 7 Dose 5mL per day of MicroBacter Clean Activated carbon UV sterilizer Reduce light intensity Dose DIY KH2PO4, as needed (target 0.05-0.10ppm) Dose DIY KNO3, as needed (target ~10ppm) Stop water changes 1 Quote Link to comment
sango
Update: I don't think I have dinos. Here are some pictures I took with a microscope. Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Doesn't look like any I'm familiar with, could be some kind of chrysophyte, diatom, or something weird like lyngbya. To be honest I don't see anything in your tank shots which looks like dinos or nuisance algae, but you seemed confident so I figured I'd make suggestions along the line of what you were looking for. You could try to take the photos to one of the large, ongoing ID threads for dinos and other such pests on R2R, or in the ID section of this forum, I'm topical at best when it comes to Algae ID under a scope. No, your suggestions were right on. It was me who made the mistaken and over-confident diagnosis. Based on these pictures, I now suspect diatoms. 2 Quote Link to comment
