jcreefer
This is for the tank that I bought LAST MARCH, for which it hasn't even seen a touch of water. Yikes!!! I've been taking my time to plan out everything, and the lighting was something I wanted to do it once and do it right. Couple of criteria: must be enclosed in a canopy and coverage. I knew even with the 120 degree lenses, the single Radion wasn't going to cut it. I couldn't raise it high enough since I wanted to mount it in a canopy. I also couldn't afford another Radion, so I thought perhaps supplementing the LED with T5 actually kills two birds with one stone: get rid of shadowing and allow sufficient coverage over the entire 3 ft. The hardest part of this entire project was the mounting of the Radion. I actually followed this guy's method and used just one set of rails. This allows me to move the light 12in side to side. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2364177 Equipment: Radion XR30W G3 Miro-4 2x39W T5 Retrofit 3 ft. (BRS) After building the canopy and test fitting the T5 retro kit, I realized the T5 length was barely too long, so I ended up trimming off some of the standoffs to make it fit. It barely fits. Measurements: the Radion is about 6.5in off the (expected) water line The T5's are about 4in off the water line. I still need to cut the holes for fans as well. On with the pics: Link to comment
