ZADL11
Hey guys, I'm new to nano reef tanks. I'm finally ready to buy and fill my 20 gallon long nano tank up with 21 lbs of live rock. I came across a few local sellers selling live rock for a great price and needed your help deciding which one would be the best buy. Seller 1 "Has been in my tank for 3 months, and came from a 5year plus system. All premium live rock, even has some green mushrooms." http://i.imgur.com/dJ9yia9.png http://i.imgur.com/rWG2v18.png Seller 2 http://i.imgur.com/4D66nX2.png http://i.imgur.com/t2AqYo2.png http://i.imgur.com/PgIRg6B.png Seller 3 http://i.imgur.com/PTMcjss.png http://i.imgur.com/xg84Tep.png Link to comment

cruiZe
Seller one is my vote! Rich purple and cool shapes and even some mushrooms (not sure if those are included) Other 2 are tan/ brown. You want coralline algae (reds and purples) and other life Link to comment

cruiZe
I love 20 Long dimensions! That looks like great rock, I'd get it right away. If it's local try to bring it home in buckets so you keep it wet, or at least minimize how long its out of the water. Tank, heater and a powerhead and you're off to a great start. compare that to the junk I started my 15g tank with!! I started with some really nice dry rock also, and eventually that became beautiful. Link to comment

cruiZe
2 buckets should do it, maybe 3. it's hard to say depending on the shape. Link to comment
ZADL11
Damn, he's saying that he needs to sell all of his 60 lbs (not just the 21 lbs I want) at once because his tank won't be able to function with just the remaining 39 lbs of live rock. He says he wants to change over to a fish only tank. Unless there's something I can suggest to still make it happen with seller 1, I might have to go with either seller 2 or 3. Which do you think looks like a good buy between seller 2 and 3? Link to comment
cruiZe
ugh! That doesn't even make sense, it will function fine (what a looser lol ) Plus if he does Fish Only W Live Rock 39lbs is perfect for him. I like some of the branchy shapes on Seller 2. The thing about rock is the more surface area the better- so more holes, crevices and stuff is good. Think the opposite of a concrete block. Those other tanks look pretty large as well, so try to pick out cool looking shapes and more porous rocks if you have a choice. Link to comment

I'll definitely be looking for unique live rock shapes that have a lot of holes/crevices. Link to comment
