Hammerstone Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 It's in the crashed tank. I gets natural sunlight too. All numbers check out. It's just something I let happen while focusing on my other tank. I've never had this type of algae, and I got rid of thenlong hair algae by twisting it, but then founded another new short thick algae. When I get this cleaned up I'm going to get corals. But I want it pristine before I put new animals in. 2 plus year tank. I guess my other is about 3. I'm bad with time lines. I don't want to do chemicals besides my carbon. I just can't rip it out because it's short and strong. Tooth brush? What is this stuff? Especially the red stuff. It's kind of pretty in an obnoxious kind of way lol?
jfduggan Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I assume you've taken to doing frequent water changes. How often have you changed it since you've been fighting the algae. Also did you run phosphate tests?
Hammerstone Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 I don't have a test for phosphates. I do by weekly water Changes. I was just trying to physically remove it. I wondered if anyone else had the red kind and the best way to get algae by hand. I think the algae is because it's near a window. I have lots of red and purple and green corraline. I just started trying to remove it. I have a canister filter that has kept at least the water pristine. I need a better tester. I have an api, and know it doesn't test for everything.
olemanwinter Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 A nice 24+ hr black out period will do wonders for fighting an algae outbreak (temporarily)
