Some Equipment for new Fluval M60 (24 Gallon) Tank

Hey everybody,

Been in the saltwater aquarium hobby for quitea few years, but mostly with larger tanks (55 & 75 gallon). Now I've decided to downsize and the other day got a good deal from my LFS on a Fluval M60 Tank and Stand. I need both a return pump and a light for the tank to start. I have some other equipment but it's obviously too large for this 24 gallon tank, so I will be purchasing some new stuff.

For the return pump, I'm wondering exactly what size I should get. My LFS recommends a Maxijet 600 or 900, just wanted to hear people's opinions and any alternative suggestions.

As far as lighting is concerned, I was looking at either the Kessil A160WE or Kessil A150W.

FYI the Fluval M60 dimensions are: 23.6" long x 16.5" deep x 15.7" high.

I'll most likely only be keeping LPS or soft corals, maybe a small clam or something as well. I like that those are a lot more inexpensive than most LED fixtures, and I also like the pendant style of light as it doesn't cover up the top of the aquarium. I've seen people with similar sized tanks online using these lights but wanted people's opinions.

Thanks

Never heard a reply on this so I bought the mj900 pump and that works just fine. Any thoughts on the light? What does everyone think about the Kessil A160WE for this size of tank?

In what way is it insufficient? I've read that people often have to turn down the brightness on these. I'd like to stay $300 or less. What would you suggest?

It's not about intensity but spread. A kessil can't do a 24in spread no matter how much they tout it can. I would look into a last gen AI Hydra 26 as they can still be found for cheap online brand new.

+1 It is about spread and unless your going to use 2 of the kessil pendents your going to have shadowing issues down the line. The have fine par output but with that style it will all be focused in the center of your tank leaving you with drop off on the edges and shadowing.

Check the hardware classifieds on here for a light, they pop up all the time and are normally a great deal. you can definitely find one for under $300. Lighting is going to be the big price tag item you don't want to skemp on if your going to care for corals.
