Wurster's Home for Hermit Crabs

This started on a whim with no prior aquarium keeping experience to provide a home for the hermit crabs my kids caught in tide pools at the shore; recipe for disaster right?

These hermits have made it through everything this tank has thrown at them, diatoms, algae, a suicidal anemone, and a really mean blue damsel. Along the way, we've picked up a clean up crew and clownfish, and found a new home for the damsel. So here's what I've got:

  • basic 10 gallon aquarium from LFS
  • Caribsea live sand - can't remember the amount, enough to give a nice 1.5" sandbed
  • 10lbs live rock
  • Aquaclear 30 with inTank media insert holding filter floss, Chemipure elite, and Purigen
  • Hydor 50w heater
  • WP-10
  • 27w LED from ebay (I think it's branded as Mars Aqua?)

Livestock consists of:

  • two hermit crabs
  • two emerald crabs
  • one peppermint shrimp
  • one nerite, 5-6 nassarius, and a bunch of dwarf cerith snails
  • one tomato Clownfish added in September

The next additions will be a ricordea, a shrimp, and a citron goby; long term plan is to upgrade to an AIO.

FTS 12-30-15 - peppermint shrimp is standing at attention!

Sorry for the miserable photos, my camera skills are a fail.
